It most likely installs all the T-Racks stuff but only authorizes the one you bought.

That's what I was afraid of - oh well it's no great loss I have plenty of tape fx

You should be able to delete the extras you don't want that are demo versions.

So it does exist as a plugin in its own right then, not just as a part of T-Racks?

The TR5 plugins are indeed separate vst3s.
I have a TR5 Tape Machine 24, TR5 Tape Machine 80, TR5 Tape Machine 99, TR5 Tape Machine 440, and TR5 Tape Echo (but I probably don't own all of them - there may be more as I did delete some)

Yep, I just tried deleting Farm Stone reverb (the dll file for it in my plugins folder) as it wasn't included in Total Studio 3.5, and it disappeared as one of the choices when I look at the list of T-Racks selections.

I don't understand all the problems about IK, I know everyone has their own way of thinking about it.
All T-racks plugins are available as standalone in any DAW. Only plugins you own appear as standalone in your DAW.
If you insert T-racks it will show plugins as a try version, what's the matter?
Will it harm my computer or DAW? Can someone explain to me why should I remove it?
DLL files are so small that it will not save me any storage space.
I am trying to understand, am I at risk of installing IK stuff?

No.

Context & Preference; so the following might not apply.

Re Space: one VST Dll might be nothing but in most cases it's VST+AU+VST3+AAX. I bought a laptop to occasionally use, with a max space of 500 GB internal space, so I do care about removing unused formats and unused plugins. I would prefer to have the option to install what I want because! - if you accidentally delete the wrong one, guess what... you'll need to re-install all of them, then delete again. I actually just did this. it wasn't the end of the world, but I wish it was easier (think Arturia, Softube, UAudio).

Clutter: Additionally, I need to access what I want quickly. If I'm not using something I don't want to sift through tons of plugins all named TRacks 5. Again, this may not be important to all, but I see a missed opportunity to make things easier for the user.

TRacks: Well, this is one I deleted. I used to complain about it showing what I didn't own, but with so many different versions of the same hardware or alternatives to the non-emulations, I just don't need it. So, this doesn't bother me anymore.

I have only a handful of Tracks plugins left, so I do wish they could make a friendlier user-customizable install.

So, as far as "risk" is concerned... I guess that just depends on what sets you off, but chances are likely no risk especially since you don't seem bothered by this, which is okay.

It installs over a gigabyte of unnecessary crap plugins.

Post

Yes, but individually each of those unnecessary crap plugins is so small, and drive space is so cheap now. /s

It installs it on your primary HD. While it's often (not always, if you're using a laptop) possible to swap that out for something higher capacity, it's a hassle.

Hence the /s[arc] tag. You'll hear no argument from me. I ditched IK for those types of practices and refuse to get behind upgrading Reason for the same ... well reason. It's my drive. If vendors are going to treat it with disrespect, they get no purchase. Too many options of respectful development houses.

I do see IK finally got into the 21st c. and now allows de-auth of systems.

My plugins folder is on my secondary drive and that's where my T-Racks dll files end up.

Most companies aren't seeking to inconvenience their customers with this kind of nonsense, so it really stands out as unnecessary. Saying it's not that bad or that drive space is cheap completely misses the point. It's frustrating. Almost every other company is doing it better.
