No other company charges you to redownload your files after 3 months either. IK really is vile.Hewitt Huntwork wrote: Sat Oct 07, 2023 11:30 pm Most companies aren't seeking to inconvenience their customers with this kind of nonsense, so it really stands out as unnecessary. Saying it's not that bad or that drive space is cheap completely misses the point. It's frustrating. Almost every other company is doing it better.

I think that's for the sample content.
Also, I thought Spectrasonics charged a fee. (?)

Each and every TR5 plugin (over 50) appears as standalone in Bitwig.fsoares wrote: Sat Oct 07, 2023 10:00 pm I don't understand all the problems about IK, I know everyone has their own way of thinking about it.
All T-racks plugins are available as standalone in any DAW. Only plugins you own appear as standalone in your DAW.
Not just the few I own.
(and yes, the VST3 files are easy to remove - but that requires checking which ones I own, and I'll have to do that over every time I update)

I just deleted all remaining TR5 vst3 files I don't have a licence for.
It took some doing:
- owned products are not sorted alphabetically at IK's site
- the VST3 file for T-Racks Vintage Tube Compressor/Limiter Model 670 is called TR5 VC-670 (so I had to restore it from the Recycle Bin)
- T-Racks 5 Custom Shop is listed among the owned products, so I wasted time trying to find the corresponding VST3 file
- as my mouse sometimes double-clicks instead of clicking, I had to wait for Cubase to boot (so I could quit it) before I had even started

And a bunch of small files in C:\users\[...]\Documents\IK Multimedia.elxsound wrote: Sat Oct 07, 2023 10:15 pm Re Space: one VST Dll might be nothing but in most cases it's VST+AU+VST3+AAX.
If I'm not mistaken, luckily, the vst/au/aax are an option while installing.

Not an option for VST3 users, AFAIK.Examigan wrote: Sat Oct 07, 2023 11:30 pmMy plugins folder is on my secondary drive and that's where my T-Racks dll files end up.Ou_Tis wrote: Sat Oct 07, 2023 11:20 pmIt installs it on your primary HD. While it's often (not always, if you're using a laptop) possible to swap that out for something higher capacity, it's a hassle.kidslow wrote: Sat Oct 07, 2023 11:17 pm Yes, but individually each of those unnecessary crap plugins is so small, and drive space is so cheap now. /s

I just tried installing the Lurssen Mastering VST3 this morning to my 2nd drive (where the other plugins are) and it shows up along with the VST2 version as a choice in Cakewalk. I haven't tried it with all the others, but at least that works from here.

Don't forget the almost 2 gigs worth of files that IK dumps here:cptgone wrote: Sun Oct 08, 2023 6:09 amAnd a bunch of small files in C:\users\[...]\Documents\IK Multimedia.elxsound wrote: Sat Oct 07, 2023 10:15 pm Re Space: one VST Dll might be nothing but in most cases it's VST+AU+VST3+AAX.

"C:\Program Files\IK Multimedia\T-RackS 5"
So even if you remove unwanted .dll/.vst3 files, you can't touch the files in the above location. Although it seems a lot of users aren't even aware of these large files in the first place.

If somebody who's been on KVR for 7 years says "I don't understand all the problems about IK" then it's probably not worth explaining the details yet again.
For me IK are very nice instruments and effects, wrapped up in terrible marketing decisions.

Thanks for the heads up, I just deleted gigabytes worth of that crap from my HD.
