I can't think of anything you could add to Vital except a dedicated sequencer/arp. I don't think it's buggy. It's never crashed on me. Are people worried about updates because of the chip thing? I know Apple is big on Planned Obsolescence, but surely this could be done.

Sample start and end points would be very handy.. copy and paste between oscillators is needed..

I could do two sounds that I liked and intending to use in a project. I didn't like the effects in general (it is the same with Vital), but that is not a biggy as I can add the effects I want and prefer. It is not as easy as Vital to guess the workflow, so it needs some time to figure out. Sure if I keep it, then I will donate some money to the development.
(Surge team member here) Glad you like Surge! :) Just for clarity, we never take money for anything we do. If you want to give money for the synth just give it to a charity of choice or buy someone a coffee or whatever.

Vital is already open-source. Not completely (last I checked), but the majority of the codebase is. And while I don't know the dev personally my hunch is that he'd open-source it all if he had no intention of developing it further.

The speculation that he can't put full-time into Vital updates seems reasonable, but like others have said, that may not be a bad thing! Surge wouldn't have gotten to where it is today if the devs were trying to use it to put food on the table. The lack of economic pressure means the development can take the time it needs. Again, I don't know Matt and have no idea what his work is like right now. Just saying updates being slower isn't necessarily cause for worry. :)
Thank you for your clarification :tu: Very nice of you mentioning charity as it is not a new thing for me and definitely I will do as you said :)
Oh, so Vital is already open source! It is a very good step even if it is not 100% open source. So, mostly if Matt chooses to end development, I see him open source all the code to give the others easier management/development.

That's encourages me to use Vital more than now :)
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

3 osc noise and sample in paid version, also less effect on free
you can save presets on free and use them later on paid if you upgrade
also motivational message on the UI on free version - upgrade now :?
He could drastically improve the effects section and make that exclusive to the paid version. If it would mess up existing presets---particularly commercial presets---he could retain the old versions of the effects as options. And add more effects, etc. Perhaps he could make it so the improved/new versions of the effects can only be used in the free version in presets that he's authorized, but can't be tweaked without paying. Then third-party preset developers could pay him a fee to use the effects in presets that will run in the free version. And he could (as someone suggested before) set up a third-party preset marketplace and get a %. Maybe include a subscription for some select third-party presets

Why though?

It works fine as-is, sounds beautiful, has a superb user interface and is FREE. Zero excuse not to use it.

The problem is you.

It's not me, it's my client who needs a patch for a remix in 7 years time. Without knowing it's being developed, I don't have that certainty, and I don't want to invest my time on abandonware when there's a plethora of great alternatives.

Every long-term KVRer knows it. :tu:

And especially me since you not only saved my ass during the 2nd hand charity one day but kept on organizing it the following years.

Didn't Matt match all purchases with donations last Black Friday? So I don't think it's about the money.

It's probably all the toxic ungrateful people demanding stuff from him who are killing his vibe.

It was a pleasure to assist you :) Good times spent with you and with Luftrum. You two started a great work of love

I've spent good times yesterday with Vital and Surge. They are both great synths complement each other. Vital wasn't that cpu friendly in Ableton Live and Cubase, but since I switched to Bitwig/Reaper mostly now, I'm enjoying a good performance 😎

There's an unhealthy sense of entitlement that pervades this place from many quarters

Surely, expecting reported bugs to be fixed (not new features) can't be entitled behaviour.
I know i have reported some well over a year now.

I highly doubt that. His software being in demand and peoples interest in whether it’s being developed is testament to his ability and the great instrument he’s created. If anything he’s probably grateful for that, and just busy.

Matt put out Helm which morphed into Vital, so maybe Vital is morphing as we speak.

And if so… he better get some business consulting quality hours.

Sheesh, this kind of fussing is becoming endemic on KVR.

If it works, use it, and be happy.

Find bugs? Report them, move on. You have no insight into what's going on with the dev, what might be happening, or what they're dealing with. Even bg 'commercial' devs go through crap.

I use Vital, works fine for my purposes, had no issue paying for the pro version, tons of presets, I'm happy.

I just discovered Surge XT, very nice synth, using it to feed EFX Fragments. More power to the Surge team!

I'll stop being reasonable now, it's not appropriate for KVR any more. :P :P :hihi: :dog:
