People didn't just assume. Matt himself said Vital would be open source in the beginning, and then apparently changed his mind and edited his blog post.FigBug wrote: Sat Oct 21, 2023 8:43 pmI don't think Vital was ever supposed to be open source, people just assumed it would be because his previous synth was open source. Then there was backlash when it wasn't, he was accused of bait and switch, etc.Tj Shredder wrote: Sat Oct 21, 2023 3:56 pm As its open source, it can't really die. Just compile it if necessary...

He can add new features to only paid versions. That may help.Rastkovic wrote: Sun Oct 22, 2023 8:06 amThat's would not be very smart, I think that's Vital's main problem. Too many users, only use the free version and I guess, Matt Tytel can't really make a living from it. Just speculation, of course.egbert101 wrote: Sat Oct 21, 2023 8:49 am Would be funny if a free version of Vital 2 is suddenly announced.

That’s the most logical forward move, but also take care of the free version’s existing bugs.Igro wrote: Sun Oct 22, 2023 12:33 pmHe can add new features to only paid versions. Give a discount to the Pro users and move on from there.

how does that work exactly? are you sure that the plugins you do buy will absolutely be supported in 7 years? that those developers may not bail, or fail, or retire, or... etc.jobinho wrote: Thu Oct 19, 2023 3:38 pm It's not me, it's my client who needs a patch for a remix in 7 years time. Without knowing it's being developed, I don't have that certainty, and I don't want to invest my time on abandonware when there's a plethora of great alternatives.
if i use a plugin and then one day... can't... i'll find another plugin, a better sound, and life will go on.

I generally only use plugins from developers who I have learned to trust (been around for awhile, update often enough, take care of bugs in a timely manner, not temperamental etc) in actual projects.. I probably have over 500 plugins, probably only 50 of them get used in actual projects... The one exception I made years ago was that guy from Brazil who seems to keep losing it every now and then.. you unsubscribe and that seems to mean nothing...that's the only one I had used in quite a few projects that I wish I hadn't.
Vital for instance has never made it into an actual project of mine...

Probably have nothing near that number, and actively try to be more minimal than I am in using or owning as it all clutters the mind almost as it does the hard drive in accumulative increments. As well as the little bits of time here and there.zvenx wrote: Mon Oct 23, 2023 5:10 pm I generally only use plugins from developers who I have learned to trust (been around for awhile, update often enough, take care of bugs in a timely manner, not temperamental etc) in actual projects.. Besides for that "GFB" I've come to see some of bigger corps as following suit. IK-M is one I wished I never got involved with and now I feel NI is becoming not worth the time expended.
This Vital "problem" now in debate of how frequent the updates are seems always in KVR "discussions" and from I observe, runs in the extreme for developers between "not enough" (especially with bug fixes more than feature requests) and the overworking of trying to meet those on a hyper-response to the user base. Even if they (we) aren't actual paying customers. Fathom is one that I feel suffers from that overdoing of trying to at their own expense . (Perhaps the exact opposite of that "GFB" and Vital?)
However, the current state of a free version does seem to set Vital apart.

I mean, that's bang on the most sensible thing I've heard in a long time. Trouble is, most people are not sensible and buy out of irrational reasons, mainly G.A.S. in the music world anyway. That also applies to myself.zvenx wrote: Mon Oct 23, 2023 5:10 pm I generally only use plugins from developers who I have learned to trust

I've seen people mentioning issues with the GUI going weird in Vital. Any screenshots? I've had it happening when I click to resize it, the background goes opaque (normal behaviour) but sometimes turns into an incredible psychedelic pattern thing. Sometimes all text vanishes as well. Not major issue but kinda weird.

The all text vanishing happened to me when I tried to do the four GUI's opened in Cubendo (actually it did it at three instances)
