I'm oldskool.

Nonetheless, I had fun like a child on Christmas Eve upon loading the unrivaled VAZ Modular into DDMF's god-send Metaplugin, allowing me to still operate this ingenious yet abandoned modular synth on my 64bit Win10 machine (inside Reaper, of course :D ).

Boy, I wish Martin aka Madgav would give it to the loving hands of the Surge Team ...

+1
I'm not a musician, but I've designed sounds that others use to make music. http://soundcloud.com/obsidiananvil

Madgav used Delphi, AFAIR, so even if he were to open source it, using that source would be probably a bit more complex to reuse than something C++ based; total port/rewrite of everything would be required.

(Ive still got VazMod on my system too, jbridges just fine.)

Started setting up for re-scoring the old silent film 'Nosferatu', which SCREAMS for a dark ambient soundtrack!

Want one new synth next month.. Abyss? Novum? Which would work best for my re-scoring work? Maybe spend the money on more coffee? More effects? More desk space? :help:

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Dug out my guitar synth and went through some of the Roland GR55 presets, something I normally bypass to use its MIDI out into other stuff, but discovered preset 19-2 Fat Brass Sec can do (with one note at a time) passable imitation of the entire brass section from Shirley Bassey’s “Big Spender”.

I have never been tempted to any track with big brass sounds before, but it’s such a great sound I think I have to use it somewhere.

Finally disconnected my last hardware synth, a Roland Aira S-1. Thus endeth the Great Hardware Experiment! A learning experience, if nothing else...

Trying demo after demo after demo. Indecision sucks.

Wondering if changing DAWs would make re-scoring work easier. Waveform is.. just adequate.. but is anything else any better? I have my doubts, everything else has Issues that are worse for me. Ugh.

For even more memories ... its little brother VAZ+ in hardware fashion ... well, at least the box containing the installation disc.

OMG I used VAZ back in the day,, holy Deity I'm old!! :o

Finally disconnected the Roland S-1 and put it in the 'sell' pile. Blew my studio cash on the Tracktion Halloween sale and got Abyss and Novum, I'm now fully equipped with all the synths I could ever use (Zebra, Vital, Kult, Abyss, Novum) - and not a single sampler at this point. Awaiting a 1TB USB 3.1 stick for online video storage. More coffee pods will be delivered today, coffee is THE most critical part of my music creation process! :hyper: :wheee: :wheee:

...well, that, Tums, and aspirin... :-o :nutter: :help:

Updated Falcon and played around with it now the multichannel MIDI out has been fixed. Took four sequences from Quadra and output them to different modular things. Had added the A-105 SSM filter to the rack so that was fun to modulate, got some nice sounds. Also linked up the B-Kobol and played around with its LFO and other onboard mod stuff and that made some really spacey sounds when piped through a bit (who am I kidding, a shedload) of delay.

Grabbed another Abyss preset pack, has some presets perfect for my re-scoring work. I now own both Jovian banks.. quite happy. :)

Trying to et started on a track that shifts ominously from light and airy to doom and depression (story of my life, I guess). Having issues with the light and airy part, which I *kind of* expected.

Much cursing, yelling, coffee and Tums consumption.

It's not timbres, I have enough light New Age-y stuff to start my own religion, it's getting into the mood that's being the pain in the arse. Maybe I need to get stoned? Worth a try... :hihi:

Dug out my Deepmind 12 and played around with the sample and hold and sample and glide LFO settings, with the mod matrix linking LFOs to filter res and portamento time it led to some very pretty moving pad sounds.

I’m now trying to find a long enough micro-USB lead to let me swap the firmware on my O_c to Phazerville. The recent talk about an O_c port to a Teensy 4 with 8 in and out ports is pretty encouraging. Of course I want one right now. :)
