Upgraded. I love it.
It's not a competition or a battle to defend! :hihi:

This is the kind of update that some of us will appreciate the more we work with it. Workflow enhancements tend to be like that. When you get knee deep in a big project and start editing multiple tracks in one go, use the range tool where you previously couldn't, route audio in a more convenient way or turn a stereo track to mono with a button toggle and then find your eyes aren't complaining when using the midi inputs I think then it will prove its value to many of us.

The range tool for the edit window and improved multi-track editing are really nice improvements.

Did they get rid of the weird Mac-like floating menu bar on Windows? Used to drive me nuts. I'd close Cubase and then have that stupid menu bar up top while on my desktop and have to close Cubase again.

I thought I saw that was fixed in the leaked change log but didn't see it on the Steiny site when I looked real quick this morning. Note: I won't be updating Cubase, but I'm still curious and hope they addressed it.

Yes, they did. One of the few pros of the update.

Nice! I'm sure Windows users will be appreciative of that.

I disagree. The overall interface is much more consistent and clear.

The inspector is way worse now, too. E.g. only send/insert slots which are used are shown. Sounds good in theory, in practice it makes thinks way more fiddly. The channel fader is now tiny as f..k, but to compensate, they added this completely useless second left sidebar with the huge channel fader, which doesn't offer anything new compared to the original inspector, but can do way less.

Channel faders in the mixer can be resized. The 'left sidebar' is very helpful for users with a lower resolution. The lower zone can be hidden and yet you still have access to each tracks mixer channel via this new addition.

Why not leave alone what was perfectly fine and instead overhaul this damn dated audio engine, which drops out every time I add/remove a plug-in that has latency.

I think it's a definite improvement. This update will not attract as many new users but rather focuses on refining workflow and usability. Porting the windows version to a new framework, I'm sure, was no easy task but will future-proof Cubase on that platform for some years to come.

And to put the icing on the cake, I'm now forced to use this annoying HUB.

I use Cubase since VST v3.x, but never has an update been a greater mess than this. (In German there's a neat word for what happened here: Verschlimmbessern)

The respective user folders stay on your computer. No problem.

Um, ... care to elaborate?

I wasn't talking about the channel faders in the mixer, but about the one in the inspector.

The lower zone can be hidden and yet you still have access to each tracks mixer channel via this new addition.
All that was possible with the original inspector. No need to add another sidebar.

This update will not attract as many new users but rather focuses on refining work flow and usability.
That in itself is perfectly fine. Yes, there are also improvements, but the f**k ups outweigh them significantly (at least for the way I work).

Porting the windows version to a new framework, I'm sure, was no easy task but will future-proof Cubase on that platform for some years to come.
That's only one half of the story, though. Steinberg themselves messed it up with v8 or v9, when they changed a perfectly working framework to that MAC imitating BS. After years selling the fix as a new feature is frankly shameless.

I was looking at a Mac M1 laptop screen and I'm quite suspicious that it has influenced the design decisions significantly, making it a hundred times more usable now. I also checked out the forum, and yes, many people are not happy with the bright white font color, but at least it's readable.

If you're ready for some entertainment (and have some popcorn), the thread titled 'Cubase 13 is great, but the look changed for the worse' is the most popular right now

HI all, I watched a video earlier today of the new Cubase 13 and saw it was now possible to route VST`s audio and other audio directly to an Audio track and record it. I upgraded my Elements 12 to 13 and it does not seem possible, is it a Pro only thing. Cheers Glyn.
