Where is Cubase 12.5 or 13? [Update: It's here C13 is released!]

I have noticed a few small graphic glitches... sometimes I don't see any insert effects in the new side panel. But I can see them in the inspector... apparently it is not updated properly.
Many people in the Cubase forum also seem to have crashes. I also had some with VST3 plugins e.g. with the Virtual Mix Rack... The Slate support gave me another version (if it fixes the problem I don't know yet).

I'm warming to C13 for reasons that hardly anyone has spoken about. There's been a bug going back for years that tracks with multi-outs saved in a disabled state open in a total mess. It now appears to be fixed. Finally it seems we can use disabled tracks of all kinds with confidence, which is for me a much bigger deal than anything new in C13.

The other one is Import Tracks from Project. This seems greatly improved and more reliable. If the routing is in place which is the same as the saved track, it will now route correctly. VIs get imported correctly. It seems much more useful and robust, again opening up all kinds of useful workflows - some people have a huge master project that they can import as much or as little of as they need.

Track Presets are still a mess though, I'll continue to avoid them - looks like they didn't get any love on this cycle.
what used to happen? It didn't remember multi out settings?

It would result in random duplications, re-orderings, missing tracks... a lottery. Visually it would be a mess too. (This happened when a project with multi-out disabled tracks got opened and then the tracks re-enabled).

Can't remember exactly how many years that was going on - I'd guess 7 or 8. The only thing that gives me pause is that it did briefly work for one release, then the next update broke it again. So although I'm delighted C13 is behaving properly again, I'm still slightly nervous.

The whole thing broke me as a beta tester - the process of logging issues was weirdly complex and never worked on the PC for me, only the Mac. I have huge respect, admiration and gratitude for those with the patience to last the distance.

I spend my hard earned money also to upgrade it and love it so much now.
Best thing, not kidding, is the " Quit Cubase" button.
Well, once a day you have to use it, even if you love to work with it.
But so cool.
No hassle with windows staying open and so on.
Just quit and you can go to sleep and dream of using it at the morning again:)

It sounds like Steinberg finally made Cubase a proper Windows application. The menu options used to be embedded in the title bar of the main window. This looked absolutely horrible if you were still using Windows Vista and with its garish "glass-like" backlit Aero interface fonts.

Because Cubase used to be one of those Windows applications in which all sub-windows needed to be contained in the main window frame. Steinberg apparently took the unprecedented step of making a kluge modification to the Windows version of the program to make it function more like the Mac version. It was awful. Cubase's windowing system needed to be rewritten from the ground on Windows OS.

It sounds like Steinberg may have finally taken this necessary step.

At the moment I can't for the life of me remember the name for this horrible design which also affected several Microsoft Office apps on Windows OS.

My one big annoyance with Cubase Pro 13 is that it no longer works with my mobile Steinberg UR22mkII 2 in / 2 out + MIDI I/O audio interface. I've tried swapping out the cables but nothing seems to work. Studio One Pro v6.5 works perfectly with the small, sturdy metal UR22mkII interface as did Cubase Pro 12.

I'm also miffed that Steinberg has not released an official Apple Silicon driver for the UR22mkII in FOUR (!) years. They don't even list the 4.0b beta driver for M1/M2 Macs on their main driver downloads page. You have to stumble across the beta driver in the Steinberg user forums. I just don't understand how a company can operate this way and expect to stay in business.

I finally decided to upgrade. Well, it is ok. It gets the job done but I need to flag the plugs that causes problems and avoid using them.
Cubase 13 crash.jpg
There are annoying things like why it doesn't default to All midi input as default!? I need to set it every time I insert an instrument?!
Anyway, I'm sure that Steinberg will iron all these bugs and stupid things in a future update, so it will be some time before I can call it stable.

Now, visually, hmmmm, not that good, but not very bad! I can give it 6/10 while Logic is 8/10. Even S1 is more inviting now. Version 12 would be 8/10. Version 13 has washy/dummy colours (worst than S1!). Anyway, I think I can get used to it as visuals are not my priority but stability is.

BTW, anyone knows how to change the Stereo Out place in the mixer to be on the right side? I forgot how to do it and thought to ask here before searching the net :)

Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

All midi input as default works fine here (Windows 11)
Massive 1 and X works fine as well

To change the channel side open Visibility Inspector (it is on the left side) and then look at the bottom. There's "Channels" and "Zones". You want to click on Zones and there you can change sides with three little dots.

Cubase 13 for me was the first usable thing since the Cubase 8. They finally got it right. Super stable, Windows management is finally done properly and everything is rock solid (I have more than 200 plugins).

p.s. I am on a different train. For me change in visuals completely worked out. Really big improvement for me.

Also tried it on a Ryzen 5626U laptop (ASUS ExpertBook L2502FYA) and to my surprise this behaved pretty fast (wasn't expecting it). Super smooth. this is more about the laptop than the Cubase but still..

Spent some more hours with it. There are some glitches or something with shortcuts sometimes, like it is focusing on the wrong window. I have to use the mouse to click in some area and then it works... I can't seem to find the issue, if it is me doing something or if it is a bug...
Like using "Select All", selects all the tracks in the project even though I'm working in the MIDI editor window... quite annoying.

Otherwise, it's OK.

After a restart, it works now! I've tested by adding a new instrument and it defaulted to All Midi Input :)

Great to hear that! As I depend on those.

Thank you :)

Good to hear positive things. I've noticed that it is more responsive. Well, as I return to use the score editor, Cubase is becoming my default DAW, so that I've upgraded.

There are also problems with plugins, which does not necessarily have anything to do with Cubase. Soundtoys, for example, had problems with CPU spikes which was recently fixed. Slate Digital often showed up in my crash dump...
It can also make sense to clean up the plugin folder or to install the latest versions of the plugins you are currently using.

Well, I always check for updates as it became a habit! So, my plugins are all up to date. I need to check the audio drivers however!

Anybody having problems with Halion Sonic? I came up with a tune starter using the Verve thing - loaded the same project the next day and no sound from it. I loaded another instance and that worked but the first one just stayed dead. I also had some glitches and stuttering when it did work. This is one Halion Sonic in an otherwise empty project!

Thoughts?

Grum.
