Tested Avenger 2.0.3 on Ableton Live 11 and Renoise, on Windows 10 with an i5 6600 and 32 gigabytes of RAM; presets consume between 6 and 16% of resources.
no crashes or bugs so far.

Wtf are you talking about... Its a vst instrument just not in a hardware box, we can easely compare. Also its the usage of computer recources compared not the actual synth. Apples and oranges are in your brain lolGam456 wrote: Sun Dec 03, 2023 3:34 pmI know the DSP56300Lbdunequest wrote: Sun Dec 03, 2023 2:56 pm
Im talking about Osirus vst, emulator running access virus c rom
https://dsp56300.wordpress.com/osirus/
As you know it's an emulation of the Freescale/Motorola DSP, not the Virus.
We can't compare with Avenger. It's apple and orange.

This like to compare an emulation of a PlayStation running on pc VS a native game running on x64. DSP56300 doesn't' even provide the Virus OS. Same for the new osTirus. You need to own a Virus Ti.Lbdunequest wrote: Sun Dec 03, 2023 3:59 pmWtf are you talking about... Its a vst instrument just not in a hardware box, we can easely compare. Apples and oranges, please try to understand what point im trying to make. Otherwise there is no point of discussing.Gam456 wrote: Sun Dec 03, 2023 4:06 pmThis like to compare an emulation of a PlayStation running on pc VS a native game running on x64. Avenger 2 is a blast, but for sound design, Phase plant remains king in my view. The interface is just so damn good while still being a power house.DCrown wrote: Sun Dec 03, 2023 8:11 amPresets and sound quality only/mainly?ATS wrote: Sun Dec 03, 2023 7:11 am What synths is better than this? I am talking, presets and sound quality mainly. I don't think I could be happier myself.
It's also the almost endless features,. that make Avenger better than most other synths. No other sybth as good as Avenger for sound design and creating presets for all kinds of genres imo.
If I wanted to use presets only with decent sound, I could use Air Xpand2! mainly.

What is your DAW? Buffer settings?miloszz wrote: Sun Dec 03, 2023 1:16 pmDespite my better judgement (see above: no demo) I decided to rent to own Avenger so I'd only be out one month at worst.msvs wrote: Sat Dec 02, 2023 9:15 am some seem obsessed with spikes.
Short spikes will always be there, since on generation of a sound after note press,
Playing a factory patch - PD Cinematic 2. Changing no knobs or anything else, just playing three note chords, I get CPU spikes and crackles every minute or so. (M1 Max MBP, 64GB RAM). I don't encounter this with any other plugin that I own.

Do the test in the other thread - viewtopic.php?t=604535 . What do you get? No unusual CPU issues here. Really trying to track this down, information is essentially useless without full specs - OS, DAW, buffer etc.Lbdunequest wrote: Sun Dec 03, 2023 12:34 pm I dont believe Manuel is doing stress tests with Avenger.
I think its the heaviest instrument plugin on the market. Access Virus C might be heavier on CPU but because its much lighter on Ram i can use much more isntances then Avenger 2.

Okay, so silicon Logic seems to have the spike issue when playing live, and no GUI open.ozinga wrote: Sun Dec 03, 2023 3:03 pmIt does not in Logicnoiseboyuk wrote: Sun Dec 03, 2023 2:17 pm For those getting the issues with live playing, can you confirm whether having the plugin GUI open or closed makes any difference?
Is there anyone out there using Logic that is NOT getting this, with or without silicon?

So reading back, Atlatnesiti here has no issues on silicon Logic, so it can't be a blanket silicon / Logic issue.Atlatnesiti wrote: Sat Dec 02, 2023 8:52 amI don't think it is Mac platform related.noiseboyuk wrote: Sat Dec 02, 2023 8:32 amInteresting post, and you might well be on to something here. I've had no issues with Avenger, but I exclusively use it in Cubase with ASIOguard on.Hanz Meyzer wrote: Sat Dec 02, 2023 3:36 amAlso Cubase has some special buffer techniques AFAIK which no other DAW uses
That said, most people with issues do seem to be on Macs. Does anyone have this spiking as a major problem on Windows?
After updating to version 2.03, I don't see any CPU spikes at all![]()
I have played many different patches for past 2 hours and CPU meter didn't go past 7%.
That is on Mac mini PRO with M2 12 cores and 32 GB RAM and 1TB SSD
Tested in Logic, Cubase 13 Pro, Ableton 11 Suite and Reason 12 and all of these DAWs returned the same result - NO spikes and very low CPU usage![]()
Trying to make sense of who does and doesn't have this in which situation is nearly impossible, given that most don't post full specs. But so far as far as I can tell we don't have any confirmed known bad configuration. We can't say "all Logic users have this issue" or anything. And some people - I suspect most - have no issues at all.
So really, at the risk of being a stuck record, anyone with the issue who wants to get it fixed has to work with Rene directly imo. Has anyone out there emailed him but not received any reply?

No spikes running latest Avenger on Logic 10.8.1 - M2 Pro Mac mini on Sonoma 14.1.2 , 16gb mem at 256.
I've been trying random things to make it pop - that PD Cinematic 2 preset mentioned earlier gave me no issues and I layered 4 of those and I got nothing. Live playing, GUI open/closed - getting zero spikes. Acid test ran 48 instances at 256.

Is there a button for All FX = Off?
I turn off all fx one by one including master fx and I still get that ever-present delay.
Why so much delay?

I wonder if it’s just Ableton Live.
It’s unusable here with all the spikes.
I’d ask for a refund if I could…
Non of my other plugins have this issue.

I had spikes and performance issues on my previous computer - a late 2012 Mac mini which pretty much ran everything comfortably EXCEPT for Avenger. Kept it so long because I could do whatever I wanted - except use Avenger.
