Found some DT1990 headphones for $400 new at Newegg with an extended year warranty which seems to be a great price. They had some other pairs as well with a decent discount. Thought someone might be interested.

New Realphones 2.0 is better with Beyerdynamic 1990 than with VSX. VSX detail is not as good and not as tweakable (in its own Software).
I own both, but recently since 2.0 I'm more using Realphones because of the better sounding rooms/spaces.

it's more or less a port from their digital post-production console hardware - and the eq action is meant to be modelled on the curves (but perhaps not the other bits) of the older analogue consoles. if you're not doing post, it's probably not going to be a major contender vs a bunch of other channel strips. it has a couple of very useful features for post, such as the ability to automate the order and action of the modules – handy for scene changes. the de-noise is tuned for dialogue as it's basically an expander around a bandpass. that kind of thing.mgw38 wrote: Tue Jan 16, 2024 12:14 pm Anybody knows if the MPC Channel Strip is actually doing something? If it has no value, this needs to be called out around here.
I would guess people who do a bit of post freelance and might one day work on the consoles will jump on the sale. I'm not sure anyone needs to feel the same pressure.

I can hear the difference between a curve on a cramping eq vs one that doesn't. if it's a boost pushed really hard.Scotty wrote: Wed Jan 17, 2024 5:49 pm Worral know his stuff but put you hand up if you can personally hear cramping near Nyquist? Anyone?
I honestly couldn't tell you if an eq is cramped without an A/B comparison (and even then I probably couldn't tell reliably which was the cramped one). there's a different gradient on the low side of the peak, which can be interpreted as harsher but...
imo, this whole discussion is only relevant if you mix habitually on analogue consoles and want the same behaviour in a digital eq. if you mix using an oldskool digital eq, you're going to compensate for the slight change in the curve. and at the top end, you're going to err on the side of using gentle boosts rather than high-q nine times out of ten. probably more like 99 out of 100. and if you're low-passing, who's going to care?

Aren't open-backed headphones like the 1990's suboptimal for using software like Realphones? Less so if you're in a well-treated room, but still....dermage wrote: Fri Jan 26, 2024 1:30 pmNew Realphones 2.0 is better with Beyerdynamic 1990 than with VSX. I do see that Realphones has a 45% off sale on going on right now---Realphones 2.0 is $54.
I was planning on getting VSX next month... any recommendations for closed-backed headphones under $300 that have accurate bass (down to around 50 or 40 hz) response with Realphones---that you'd consider better than Slate VSX? (I'm not after "boosted" bass, I want an accurate representation of bass response on different systems. Sub bass accuracy below 40 hz is less important but I do want it to produce sound below 40 hz as well.)
[Edit: or headphones under $300]

Is there some a/b VSX vs real space or is it all conjecture?

Why would open-back headphones make a difference? You get a better soundstage. Also room treatment has no effect on headphones either. Or am I missing something?Ou_Tis wrote: Fri Jan 26, 2024 3:07 pmAren't open-backed headphones like the 1990's suboptimal for using software like Realphones? Every VSX headphone is measured. When you install the software, you have to choose the frequency response group that your particular headphones fall within. Also, FWIW, I don’t think anyone needs the Platinum version. I use one room (the Howie Weinberg) for everything, I never use the others.
I’ve never used Realphones. I wouldn’t doubt that, combined with great Beyer’s, it’s better than VSX. But VSX is giving me great results and I see no reason to switch.

Actually I love the new club space in VSX, but In Realphones there are just more spaces to chose from. I produce techno, so it's important for me that it also works in bigger spaces. I can now check in club and In big halls in RP.
In rp2 you actually can load even external headphone measurements from a big database. Additionally you can add custom eq correction to the profile now.
If you want it easy, go for VSX, if you want extra customisation and check possibilities go for RP. (can also mono, check sides, disable room, add more ambience etc)
Both are very good products.
Edit: Just compared the 1990 vs VSX in Realphones, there's not too much difference I hear in lowend. Mid/high in 1990 is a lot cleaner/defined though. Makes sense, since the VSX phones are comparable to ~200€ headphones like Beyerdynamic 770 or 880 (which I own too), and the 880 are less bass heavy but from the sound resolution/definition similar in quality, but easier to wear.

Never thought I'd want to buy a delay plugin in 2024, but Recirculate for $30 is tempting for sure. What according to you guys is/are the delay plugin/s that come the closest to it in all aspects?

After purchasing, I received a 15% "Earthling Discount" (may apply to Earthlings only)
Be sure to check DAW compatibility at the page I linked.
Pleasantly surprised this plugin is available in CLAP format, too![]()
