After you said that, I tried that VK-1.
https://www.thrash.pl/vikingtest.mp3
I was able to create bassdrum (I was even surprised how easy it was without any complicated functions - I guess luck), but after I spent some time, I give up - bass and hihats are controlled by automation, because I have no idea how to alternate filter or volume by velocity in this synth.
So - good luck, you'll need it!

And btw. interesting question - if synth is crappy enough and have no ENVs, LFOs etc. (or have them, but you cannot connect them to many knobs) - is creating these extra function outside synth (by some more tricky automation) allowed?
Yes automation is allowed just not audio rate. For this I've used bitwigs expression modulator which you can map velocity to the master gain

The filter has a space setting when the filter is in hp LP mode you can use this to EQ things like hats. Was surprised also how quickly I could make decent sounding toms and snares

The program matrix confuses me it's got that prophet type of mapping I don't understand. Time to figure it out!!

Absolutely. You may freely automate any synth parameters. (I believe the only exception is you can't use an audio rate LFO that would introduce a tone from the automation itself.)

That's a nice tip. Did you have to buy anything after the $1.99 initial fee?

Nope, just the little app.

I can map velocity to anything I want, so basically I can even map it to reset DAW LFO (in my case reset works with full scale so depends on velocity it can re-start lfo from any point) and map lfo to filter, so I can prepare pretty nice plucky bass using only velocity. I just want to know if is allowed (I made it with my one song that I do not used for OSC; on OSC tune I had enough powerful synth) because that type of automation basically can transform any crappy synth into something better.

I wanted to have some fun on this one so I picked a unique synth I love to play around with.
Daw Ableton 11, 4x instances of Monster toybox, 4x Magic dice by baby audio and one instance of RF-DSP for compression and reverb.

A little OT - what do you think about Syntronik CS (free version with limited number of presets and oscillators) as new OSC synth? I know that many people think it's kind of rompler with sampled sounds, but it's actually not true - it has only sampled oscillators (so instead of generating analog osc it has sampled saws, squares etc. from real hardware) and rest is pure synth with matrix, automation and five slots for really cool effects (basically it has built-in MixBox). It contains one preset with drums, but in this case it may be acceptable (or that preset may be excluded). I think Syntronik is a very underrated synth that has many cool features, but not so good default presets (which may be cool in OSC). For those who have full Syntronik, I have easy way to switch it to free version for a while (it's basically the same synth, but with bigger library, so you can download CS free library and just change path in Syntronik for the time of OSC).

It's been awhile since I've submitted a track but I noticed that this month also hardware
was allowed so I thought it would be a fun idea to use my Korg O5R/W module which I problably
haven't use for more than 15 years. Well the idea was fun but the excecution a bit problematic
in some instances. If your using plugins you can automate anything but in this instance all of the changes had to be made in midiclips(volume, panning, delay & reverb level). Luckily this module has good reverbs and delays so soundwise I think it worked and found some presets that would work for the idea I had in mind.

I recorded 14 miditracks to audio in Ableton 11 and used a compressor and limiter on the master.
In this stage I also used a bit of reverb from the DAW,

Hope you like it,
Quaoar

Hello, I hope that everyone is doing well! It's been two years since I've last submitted to OSC, although this is my third or fourth attempt to do so since then. (I didn't make it much past the "download synth and noodle" phase with the others, but this time I'm using a synth that I bought last year, so I had already made some patches.)

33 instances of JP6K in Studio One v5
Channel strips: SSL CS2 and Waves EV2
Compressors by TDR, SSL, IKM, Fircomp, Black Rooster, Native Instruments, Izotope, VOS, Klanghelm
EQ/Dynamic EQ by TDR, Izotope, Hornet
Limiting: SSL X-Limit, Toneboosters Barricade, and KClip
Saturation by SSL
Delay: Replika XT (modulation set to off/lowest possible)
Reverb: Vahalla Vintage Verb, Blackhole, RC48, and Superplate (modulation set to off/lowest possible)
Tape by Softube (for saturation and cross-talk)
Autopan & arpeggiator by Presonus
Sidechain: VolumeShaper
Voodoo fuckery by Ozone Stabilizer (it's some kind of AI dynamic EQ)

As much as I love old-school trance (as would be appropriate for this supersaw-only synth), this isn't that -- I wouldn't have finished in time, and others here are much better at the genre. So, it's basically three minutes of sundry noodling sandwiched into the middle of a two minute composition. (Yes, I realize now that "Sawdust Sandwich" is a much better title for this, but I've already made the thumbnail and don't have time to change it.) Enjoy!
