I owned this guitar back in the 90's
https://reverb.com/item/76849490-samick ... trap-locks

Samick Valley arts custom pro stratocaster flamed maple SSH EMG active pickups, Schaller strap locks
Used – Excellent
Original Price$7,882.88
New Price$7,094.59

It was $650.00 new with Duncan designed pups. I sold it when I stopped gigging and got into restaurant mgt working 70 hour weeks.

Who thinks the EMG's and Shaller strap locks constitutes a 6k price hike?

My Martins have doubled in price since I bought them 10-11 years ago. I wouldn't have the money for a D-28 at this point. I could sell it for a nice little profit, but I'm not that dumb.
I have been interested in Jazzmasters. Fender American, here? €2000+. Nosirreebob. Even whatever MiM models they have are €800+. Nope. There's a Larry Carlton copy coming out in the next few months. €569. Hmmm.

The only Sire's that impress me are the T7 FM's and they don't sound anything like a telecaster to my ears.

The PRS SE silver sky impresses me more than any other strat copy I've heard to date. That being said I hate the colors.
I miss my strat, I miss having a strat in general. Honestly I think the silver sky sounds better than my old Fender Eric Clapton strat plus.

PRS's fretboard is too wide, the neck too thin for my style of playing (often use the thumb a la Hendrix). They look very cool, but just don't suit my hands.

PRS guitars come in varying neck profiles. Much of it has to do with the individual model. There are pattern regular, pattern thin, pattern wide thin, pattern thick and pattern thick wide. I tried a wide fat pattern PRS back in the 90's and hated it. I equally hated a Les Paul Custom back in the 2000's with a "59" neck. I've owned a few LP's one 57 one 72 reissue and one '77 custom none were that thick a neck. Oddly I have in my collection an Epiphone Joe Pass with the exact same 59 profile neck and I'm not bothered by it. I just don't play it as fast I would a solid body.

I happen to have a "PRS Style" guitar from Raven West. It's a shallow hollowbody with a small block that only supports the stop tail piece and bridge.

It needs work and it feels nothing like a PRS. I need a new nut and a complete refret I played the hell out of that guitar before I went back to full size boxes and the cheap materials suffered as a consequence.

Back to "S" type guitars. I'm not found of the MIM's or the CIC/Indonesia fender strats.
The older USA strats are way out of my price range. S7 FM''s look great they have a little mid muddiness to my ears. The Silver Sky SE sounds quite faithful to a 60's era strat.

On the other hand while the S7 Vintage does a remarkable job at vintage tone though not on the level of the SE Silver sky.

You've illustrated my point perfectly Just remember that the seller doesn't always get the asking price sometimes they just want the attention.

I remember when the first PRS limited edition dragon was released. It was listed at $25,000

So it hasn't acquired value over time as was believed.
I had to look. Stripper rules applied (look, don't touch) Me and everyone else who played guitar in metro Detroit. It was the perfect draw. People would look and then many would buy "regular" PRS Custom 24"s

This is an interesting one...

Retailers selling new guitars at used guitar prices. Retailers don't have infinite space. They make a guestimate on how many of a certain guitar will sell and order on that. When the guitars don't sell they have a lot of inventory that must move. If they sell it as new at deep discounts they are likely to piss of the manufacturer. The plain truth of the matter is I'm not going to buy a new guitar I don't like and if no one else likes it to maybe there is something to that.

Then there's Gibson

Destroying guitars rather than selling them at a reduced price.

What I heard from local dealers is that main brands like Fender, Gibson, Martin and Taylor pretty much control which models they need to fill up with on display.

But they do discounts on stuff that is new that been on display for years.

Since the pandemic, shops here have often stuck to the MSRP, which is the first time I've seen that, nor will they offer discounts, even to regular customers.
My 2009 'Inspired by John Lennon' Casino (paid 749€ in 2010) I've seen going for 3x that. They were a limited run, American Gbson P-90s, thin satin finish as opposed to thick polyglop, and a HSC. There's currently one on ebay classifieds for 1600€. I was offered 1200€ for mine, a couple of years ago. My eyes initially lit up with $ signs, but I declined. This guitar can go from jazz to grunge, and plays like buttah. So, others apparently know how good these v. of the Casinos are. Light as a feather, as well.
