The reason is basically because they ”removed” the possibility to create third party soundsets (in any sensible way).Dencheg wrote: Wed Jul 31, 2024 11:59 amWhy isn't it (was not) popular? They didn’t roll out presets coz the synth was not popular so there was no business. And the reason it didn’t become popular had nothing to do with the sound, but because it was half baked. Still one of the best sounding soft synths.Dencheg wrote: Wed Jul 31, 2024 11:25 amThat's why sound designers rolled out thousands of amazing preset packs for Massive X

You actually could tag your sounds in Komplete Kontrol and it would show under user banks. For example:

EDIT: Actually, I forgot this does require enabling a feature toggle that is available to content producers. Worth asking NI partnering team about!

Yes it does. But there is a third party app that enables it (although it shouldn't be needed). However it came too late, I think most third party sound designers lost interest by thenEvilDragon wrote: Wed Jul 31, 2024 12:44 pm You actually could tag your sounds in Komplete Kontrol and it would show under user banks. I did a fair dive into it towards the initial release but then it kind of faded. I now remember there are two major reasons for me to not designing any third party presets for Massive X. The first is the mentioned tagging and the second is the "performer" is not poly but only mono which is a scandal imho. Makes it useless to create longer evolving sounds with precision and also takes the fun out of rhythmic stuff (playing polyphonically).
Nevertheless, the tool could perhaps encourage another dive. We'll see. Been thinking about Pigments awhile (for third party soundsets) and yea maybe lets see if MX can convince.

It's true about the Performer. It did gain some other features though (remote octave to change different sequences on the fly, for example), and the routing is WAY more elaborate, audio rate modulation sounds better than pretty much almost any other softsynth out there... all the wavetable mangling modes are very interesting and exponentially widen the sonic palette... there's still an awful lot to like in there, sound-wise. I'm sure you'll find your wayliv wrote: Wed Jul 31, 2024 1:36 pmI did a fair dive into it towards the initial release but then it kind of faded. I would be if there was enough requests for a MX soundset by Leap Into The Void.
What do you (everyone) think?
In the meanwhile if there are Massive enthusiasts here that would be interested there's a Leap Into The Void complete Massive bundle with a super price available right now.

Yes, sound wise, the oscillators are pure genius.EvilDragon wrote: Wed Jul 31, 2024 1:41 pm all the wavetable mangling modes are very interesting and exponentially widen the sonic palette... there's still an awful lot to like in there, sound-wise.

Do we have any evidence that it’s not popular, or are we just basing it on what we think based on KVR chatter? I bet most people who own it have it via Komplete, so even if they’re not selling a lot of individual licenses, they’re selling a lot.Dencheg wrote: Wed Jul 31, 2024 11:59 amWhy isn't it (was not) popular? There is no polyphonic wavetable plugin instrument that does feedback and filter FM better than Massive X. I still feel like the UI is a bit terrible, but in time I got used to it. I consider it one of the best “hybrid” synths that I own, including hardware that set me back several thousands of dollars. Whatever issues it has, I feel it’s still one of the best sounding synths that I own.

There are actually quite a few preset packs out there. maybe not compared to serum which has been around much longer.audiouser720 wrote: Wed Jul 31, 2024 11:41 amIt has nothing to do with the sound mate. NI also have a large number of presets. I very very rarely buy presets, but I did get quite a few NI packs on sale to help me get a better idea of the scope of sounds the synth can make. The synth certainly has some range.
It is a shame the browser isn't a bit better, and that seems to have paused updates. A 1.5 or even 2.0 update would be very welcome.
Lots of low hanging fruit for NI when they get the time.
Browser improvements
LFO improvements
Midi control mapping (beyond the macros)
etc

MIDI mapping is just so essential...
