AIR Music Technology HYPE apparently wasn't accepted by the "market". Currently in the KVR "sale" and still not a topic. https://www.kvraudio.com/product/hype-b ... technology
First, it's not a successor to the legendary Hybrid 3. More like an Xpand 3. Many (too many) presets, but no organization function (delete or flag) - please include it in the update (but Air and updates... :D ).
Limited sound design function, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but just not comparable to 6xOSC Hybrid 3. Sometimes 2xOSC, sometimes not. No arpeggio, sequencer or anything like that... rudimentary effects, just a single type of reverb, unusual or simple delay, no chorus or flanger.
"AIR Hype is powered by four sound engines; FM, Wavetable, Virtual Analog and Sampled, created from decades of research and meticulous design." That could be the case, but nothing that can be clearly edited.
Some kind of Rompler?
I'm still undecided about the quality. Who motivates me to use this “plugin”?

Not me

Maybe it's not only about the product itself, it's also about the brand reputation. They literally put it to waste over the years...

Hype is an instrument they developed for the MPC hardware, it's OK, somewhere in between a rompler and a do it all synth. It's low CPU I'm sure, and sounds pretty good. Just disappointing they didn't make Hybrid or Loom for the MPC, with a new GUI for VST/AU.

Post

I guess it's basically Xpand under another name and with a new GUI (which in itself was a dumbed down Hypersonic - I wonder if the name 'Hype' alludes to that?)

Hybrid, Loom and VacuumPro are three of my favorite softsynths of all time mostly in terms of sound quality but I like the UIs too, just wished they were scalable. AIR wouldn't need to do anything else with them than that and I reckon most people would be happy.
I don't usually hang onto older outdated plugins but I made an exception with these. I don't feel obliged to replace them with the newer AIR plugins.

Hype ? pfft

what's the next one gonna be called?
Scam ?

What is the difference between "Control LFO" and "LFO"?

Post

another fun thing with air. if your license seems to be gone, then you have to - insider tip - log out and log in again...

Post

to this day there is no answer as to what the difference is between control lfo and lfo. The manual doesn't explain anything, but you can now only use hype if you install a "control center" - like with waves, ujam, izotope etc. (still better than Nexus or Avenger, which block any creativity because you have to constantly log in and restart.)
to this day nobody is interested in this plugin, no preset packs or anything like that.
in other threads people ask why Lennard doesn't make any more synths. like air, which has 187 plugins and doesn't maintain any of them.
but still: the sound is good and the low CPU load is probably the best on the market.

Don't think this is true unless something has changed very recently. You should be able to download the demo, install it, then log in with your inMusic account when you launch it to activate the license.

Hype is OK but it's defintily one of those things that was designed for the stand alone MPC hardware and as a VSTi because they could. One thing is perfectly clear though, Air have not a clue on how to market anything. Their whole strategy is blow out sales, so price the thing way too high, then offer it for 50-90% off and be amazed that not a soul buys anything from them when it isn't on sale.

IMO Hybrid 3 and Loom II could easily be sold for $50-75 the entire time, but they offer them for $200 then have a blow out sale where they're $25, and don't make enough off the plugins to keep them up. I'm spitballing but outside looking in, it really looks like that.

Shame because they are low CPU with solid sound quality.

Any idea why Air never released a proper Hypersonic 3? There’s still so many people that love HS2 !! Did wizoo retain the rights to Hypersonic 2 or something?
I know they made Xpand , but it was never as good as the real thing. Seems like an obvious strategy for success, if they would re release it.
Not sure why they never took their releases of their older synths UIs seriously either. They had a few gems I loved.
I own the Akai package it has a ton of usable sounds. Hypes cool , Fabric xls much better though imo.

Correct, except, IMNSHO, for the "OK" part, it's shit. I have a Force and it comes with that. I'm not sure what they're trying to do, but, I suspect that they want to leverage their hardware market for add-on sales and, also, since they have to write those low CPU plugins for their hardware with anemic CPUs, then why not try to leverage their existing plugin customer base as well.

Hype is crap with a dumb U/I that looks like it was invented by committee that wanted to get to the bar before happy hour was over.

I can confirm that you don’t need the software center app. I just opened Hype and it was deactivated and I was able to login and activate it. I initially downloaded and used the software center app when I installed my In music Air stuff but uninstalled it and they work without it but the do become inactivated sometimes which may be related, otherwise I like Hype,it’s pretty nice for some basic sounds and is even better in Bitwig because it can be modulated with all of Bitwigs mods-makes it much more interesting with a few mseg’s or random mods
