Here’s maybe a weird question - how is trackpad scrolling for knobs and parameters in Avenger. I’ve found that synth design can be a joy on a laptop with a trackpad if the two-fingers scrolling is at a useful speed. So many are too slow. Some that I think of that feel really nice and quick (can move the knob most of the full range on one two finger gesture for example) are u-he synths, Omnisphere and Sylenth1. Many are very slow and require about 5 sweeps to go the full range.
Another reason why it’s nice to actually be able to demo.

It’s very fast but lacks a sense of weight that other synths like Serum for instance have, which I find quite satisfyingEchoes in the Attic wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2024 11:55 am Here’s maybe a weird question - how is trackpad scrolling for knobs and parameters in Avenger. A bit slower if you hold shift.ChanceB wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2024 2:24 pmIt’s very fast but lacks a sense of weight that other synths like Serum for instance have, which I find quite satisfyingEchoes in the Attic wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2024 11:55 am Here’s maybe a weird question - how is trackpad scrolling for knobs and parameters in Avenger. Unfortunately it’s worse than I thought initially. I don’t know if it’s a Sequoia /Avenger thing or Bitwig/Avenger thing but for me Avenger’s performance memory wise is bad and seems to get worse over time and is pretty much unusable at the moment unfortunately. I’m still testing but currently I have two instances ,one with a single 4 bar note triggering a drum sequence an another 2 bar single note arp. Just this is enough to push the memory pressure on my M1 air 8 gig into the yellow and start swapping memory and slowing everything down. Processor use on the other hand is fine mostly, some spikes when switching presets but otherwise it’s fine. I don’t have any problems with doing full songs with this computer using lots of plugins with 30 or so tracks usually. I hope this is fixed,I just repurchased Avenger and am enjoying it more than I did in my previous year of owning it.Jac459 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 7:14 pmAh ok, thanks for clarifying.ChanceB wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 7:05 pmI updated to Sequoia and also just re purchased Avenger and did notice it causing a slight issue with Bitwig maybe. Have you tried to pay with the settings of how your plugin is loaded in Bitwig? Can change a lot memory usage.ChanceB wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2024 12:09 pmUnfortunately it’s worse than I thought initially. I'll try it later and tell you if I have the same problem. I have 16gb and never noticed anything despite having 8-10 instances.
I am not under sequoia yet though...

I have. I usually have it set in the middle “by vendor “. Switching to “together improved it slightly. The” host with Bitwig” setting is better still which is to be expected but still too much. Its possible that Avenger 2 just uses to much RAM for my computer though I don’t remember having this problem before but most of my use was of Avenger 1 in Fl Studio. I’m pretty amazed at what I can do with the m1 and only 8 gigs but it might be time to upgrade.

Hello again...
So I did check and...
You are definitely into something. I have 16gb. My memory usage is 9.3GB in the song without Avenger 2. When I load avenger 2 in the song. It becomes 12.8 (3.5gb additional!) for 6 instances.
The 6 instances are heavy but indeed the memory consumption seems to be quite high...
The memory consumption is NOT evolving though, so it doesn't seems to be a data leak....
Starting a project from scratch. I added a simple melody as only track.
8.38gb as memory usage with Bitwig only.
8.50gb with polysynth playing the melody (Bitwig synth).
8.79gb with spire.
9.18gb with Falcon 2 (first preset of the preset tour default bank pack)
Back to Bitwig only: 8.69gb.
11.13 with Avenger 2 (first bass preset of the factory sound bank).
Difficult to interpret these results as there are many many factors (it can be only smart memory reservation) but it seems indeed Avenger is very heavy on memory...
I will report the problem to the support (and so should you).

Ok great thank you for testing. I expect memory usage to be higher than other synths considering all that’s going on with it,especially if I have 8 multi samplers or granular samplers loaded but I’m getting excessive memory use from the single saw init patch.Jac459 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2024 7:47 pmHave you tried to pay with the settings of how your plugin is loaded in Bitwig? One thing I forgot to add. The “gets worse over time “ I mean a long time,I leave Bitwig open often overnight or for days sometimes. so this morning I open the computer and have one Avenger already open from last night , I change the preset and Bitwig becomes laggy, unresponsive check the activity monitor and memory pressure is in the yellow. The preset is simple too,it’s Arp Cine Bass Athmo from the factory library. I’m sitting here waiting for it to recover and it’s just stuck in the yellow at seven gigs. Something is seriously wrong with Avengers memory management.ChanceB wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2024 10:46 pmOk great thank you for testing. Well, after months (years) discussing Avenger 1 and 2 "supposed" CPU issues, with visible spikes but no impact on my day to day work, even with dozens of Avenger instances.......
It all ended this week. I have a very normal song. Not a lot of complexity going on, no "one touch song presets", yes, here I am, the spikes DOES cut the sound now and it becomes difficult and unpleasant to work with the track. I isolated the synths, I do confirm that Avenger 2 is the issue.
It is really weird because Avenger 2.0.5 was working like a charm. Not even any spike...
I'll write to the support and report any response here...

This then obviously are memory leaks which should be fixed.ChanceB wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2024 6:13 am he “gets worse over time “ I mean a long time,I leave Bitwig open often overnight or for days sometimes. so this morning I open the computer and have one Avenger already open from last night , I change the preset and Bitwig becomes laggy, unresponsive check the activity monitor and memory pressure is in the yellow.

Yes it should. I emailed them about it and was told that the upcoming 2.3.0 update would have improvements to memory usage.Hanz Meyzer wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 7:34 amThis then obviously are memory leaks which should be fixed.ChanceB wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2024 6:13 am he “gets worse over time “ I mean a long time,I leave Bitwig open often overnight or for days sometimes. so this morning I open the computer and have one Avenger already open from last night , I change the preset and Bitwig becomes laggy, unresponsive check the activity monitor and memory pressure is in the yellow.

I have to confirm this behavior as well. Last years my DAW (Ableton/Reaper) was my Win10 and with 1st version of Avenger I had no issues with CPU spikes. This year I bough M1 Ultra/64GB and even on this powerful machine there are some occasional spikes but only when there are 4+ instances of Avenger 2 (Ableton, buffer 64 samples). I'm afraid that low buffer settings might be a problem also. Or combination of these factors: low buffer + many instances.Jac459 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 7:15 amWell, after months (years) discussing Avenger 1 and 2 "supposed" CPU issues, with visible spikes but no impact on my day to day work, even with dozens of Avenger instances.......
