The PF has a different wiring system than regular black beauty three pup customs. As such it's three way switch operates like a standard three-way. One of the pots is a blend control for the middle pup. You'll get all the easy to use 2 pup tones and an additional tone if you want to blend in the mids. No loss, all gain

Oh, I didn't know about that PU configuration, thanks Mike. Since I've already mentioned my dislike for the fret end binding nibs, might as well explain that part. I do have one G product with those nibs.
We have big seasonal changes in here. And especially during cold winters, central heating dries everything up and it's not that easy to keep proper humidity all the time. So after years, seasonal shrinking and swelling of neck has made fret ends to push those nibs out little by little. And now high e slips easily into those gaps and gets even stuck in there. Those nibs were robbing otherwise playable surface from the fretboard even when they were still ok, now bottom part of the fretboard feels a bit like skating on thin ice...you might fall through any second so extra careful down there. That of course takes some fun out of playing. So for me they are a useless and limiting feature in guitars, thus frets over the binding or no binding at all.

The one I play the most is a 2021 Gibson Les Paul Studio. Really love it.tapper mike wrote: ↑Mon Sep 09, 2024 4:13 pm So three questions.
What Les Paul type guitar do you own?
What Les Paul type do you wish to own?
Who inspires you to play a Les Paul (Page, Slash, Schon, other?)
I also have a Samick Artist LC650 from the mid 90's. It's their LP Custom version and quite nice.
I guess my Hagstrom Superswede and Swede are LP-type as well. It was probably nostalgia that put me on a path to buy these. When I was a teen and in my first bands I really wanted the Superswede but could never afford it. So when they (kind of) started up production again I tried them at the local shop and was really impressed.
If I would get another LP type it would probably be with P90s.
Not sure any special artist inspired me to play Les Pauls. But that Jimmy Page, Robert Fripp and Steve Hackett played them didn't hurt.

I had a '72 Reissue (standard) with P90's and the neck pup was terrible. As it was mounted directly into the body I couldn't raise it to increase the output.
As for influences...
I was not a fan of country music till I was channel surfing as a boy The Porter Wagoner show comes on and..Jerry Reed blew my mind

P-90's can be raised. We use weather stripping underneath but springs or surgical tubing can also be used.tapper mike wrote: ↑Thu Oct 10, 2024 11:51 am I had a '72 Reissue (standard) with P90's and the neck pup was terrible.

FWIW, for anyone who hates 60 cycle hum, P-90's are a lot better now than they were in 1982. The Dimarzio Fantom 90 is absolutely killer.

Couldn't stand it when I was young, enjoy a lot of it now.
Not least country rock.
Always loved jazz, including on guitar. It was all around the house growing up.
My father had a huge jazz record collection and we used to go to big band jazz concerts together.
Mick Ronson is such a beautiful player, so melodic.
Lifeson should have been on my influence list.

Completely off topic from the topic but following along with "Country, Country Rock and Jazz
There is this "Collective" of under 40 artists who have YT material as individuals and as duo's or groups mostly Centered around Elle Cordova (Reina El Cid)
Individually they are Elle Cordova, Toni Lindgren, Joshua Lee Turner, Allison Young, Carson McKee
They play everything from jazz standards through 50's, 60's. and 70's pop-rock folk and country. Mostly acoustic instruments and occasionally clean electric guitars and basses. All of them are multi-instrumentalists and can hold their own singing.I hsb
They'll also tag along with Mary Splender, Post Modern Jukebox Katie Katie Martucci to name a few
I have YT Music playlists of them that I listen to at work and really should create a YT (regular) playlist

What Les Paul type guitar do you own?
A fretless made in China that says Gibsun on the headstock.
What Les Paul type do you wish to own?
None.
Who inspires you to play a Les Paul (Page, Slash, Schon, other?)
Not a single ”guitar centric” guitarist has ever inspired me, and never will.
I think Godin makes way better LP style guitars than Gibson, like the Godin LGX SA Flame AAA Trans Blue

This looks otherwise OK, but I've always avoided guitars with a bad gingivitis.morelia wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2024 11:35 am So three questions.
What Les Paul type guitar do you own? 1971 Standard
What Les Paul type do you wish to own? I've never really wanted another. if I did I probably go away from the standard. Maybe an Adam Jones.
Who inspires you to play a Les Paul (Page, Slash, Schon, other?) Anyone who get great blues to metal core tone from a les paul. Slash was my first inspiration though.
Sunburst color suits well to most of the guitars, but there are different tones of "sunburst".
This color is near the ideal - 335 will be my next el. guitar.

I was considering one till I actually played it long story short I didn't like it.
I've had a few Godin's
Freeway SA, ACS SA and LR Baggs
The freeway sounded like rubber as they ware trying to squeeze out all the harmonics to improve sa (synth access) response
The LR Baggs (pecursor to the acoustcaster the LR Baggs version used tines where as the acoustcaster used reeds. The difference is between a Rhodes and a Wurlitzer guitar. I love that thing
The ACS was good as a nylon string but could have been better if they opted for an internal mic = piezo like they do now. The SA had serious note drop off

Personally I love the Godin LGX SA not only because of the playability but also the versatility of it: 13-pin output + 2 guitar jacks. I even used nylon strings on it (D'Addario Folk Nylon) which worked really great.tapper mike wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2024 5:09 am

But now I have a Breedlove Nylon equipped with internal 13-pin so I'm back with having regular electric strings on the Godin.
Godin's fretless nylon is really amazing, if you haven't already I hope you get to play one!

I'm not a fan of fretless guitars. It's just not me, Nor am a fan of pitch to midi. The linnstrument does all I've ever wanted from a midi instrument.
As for nylon string guitars. If I were in the market I'd buy a Cordoba Stage
