"Korg is excited to unveil the multi/poly, a ground-breaking analogue modelling synthesizer that combines the warmth of classic analogue sound with the versatility and power of digital technology. Inspired by the iconic Mono/Poly, this new synthesizer introduces Korg’s next-generation analogue modelling technology, offering musicians and sound designers unparalleled creative potential."

Just curious - overpriced compared to what?db3 wrote: Thu Oct 24, 2024 7:41 am Yeah, looks interesting. I assume this is another Raspberry Pi synth....seems overpriced.

I was looking at maybe getting a Modwave as well as Opsix but, this looks more interesting than Modwave although no desktop model and it's probably some sort of compromise on a full Modwave and a full KingKorg so maybe stick with Modwaveegbert101 wrote: Thu Oct 24, 2024 7:46 am So they combined the KingKORG engine with the Modwave engine. That's actually pretty exciting stuff.

For me, while it's an interesting synth, it's about perceived value. i.e. It doesn't come across as premium hardware. It's lacking aftertouch and seemly requires little processing power.
It's fantastic Korg are providing VST editors for hardware synths, but I'd likely not invest $900 if a fully functional standalone plugin version might come along later (precedent has been set). This devalues the hardware.
I'd suggest the other Korg digital synths in the same form factor are around the right price point. Modal did digital well (albeit making themselves bankrupt) with Argon & Cobalt along with VST editor.

I love the look of it, but can't say a VA tempts me for hw, even though VA is probably better suited to this format than things like Wavestate and Opsix (both of which I bought) and would be far easier to program. Pricewise seems fine - it's only $100 different to similar Korg hw. I hope the Kaoss pad becomes a standard on Korg's hw - it almost made me buy Modwave, but ultimately my dislike of wavetables won out. But I would have dearly loved a pad on Opsix and Wavestate
.
An analogue Korg Monopoly, or some derivative would definitely tempt me though...just saying, Korg
. Already bought a Behringer Monopoly, but I would definitely spend again for a Korg one.
Have to say though...I agree that most people would suspect a plug-in will follow, so that really is a disincentive to buy hw, even though multi/poly has great hands-on control.

Oh, in reply to the Modal point...no they didn't do digital well. They went bust, so by definition did it wrong. Either was too cheap or couldn't sell enough units, doesn't matter. Korg must be doing something right as they continue releasing really interesting stuff at competitive prices and I applaud that even though this one isn't for me. Look, a Behringer Monopoly sells for barely less than a Korg Minilogue XD. Recently I've seen a rare sale for Minilogues locally that actually put them cheaper than a BMonopoly. Both 4voice analogues, and actually the XD packs in way more and has full-on screaming character Korg filters which the Monopoly doesn't. The price of these Korg digitals is pretty good if you seriously look at what else is out there. Streaks ahead of any of the overpriced rehash garbage that say Roland offer. Apart from the cheaper smaller keys and control I can see this offering what a Nord offers and then some for a fraction of the price

Nah. I'm far more hw-centric and hate diddling with a mouse, but I have no problem with 3 octave keys. I don't care about aftertouch either - almost never use it even on my big keyboards. Not everyone wants to be JS Bach with his giant organ. TBH almost my favorite kb is a Yamaha DX100. That's a complete toy to a "player" but I find it incredibly easy and very handy. My UBXa is full 5 Oct with MPE and all that extraneous shite, but I prefer all of the smaller Korgs to play on. Horses for courses.

First impression is how they just reuse pots, screens, keybed, etc. to save money- so negative. Listening to the review though I can see an almost endless palette of sounds being made with this. Digital, sure, but SO many filter types and wave shape types and distortion types...egbert101 wrote: Thu Oct 24, 2024 7:46 am So they combined the KingKORG engine with the Modwave engine.
