No, it's automatically generated when the preview is created.

You 'could' manually edit the user_tags.csv file, but that is not officially supported

OK, thanks for the info 👍

Well well well! Looks like Nexus5 is finally what I always dreamed it could be. Actually, this is what I was hoping Avenger would be but it seems Nexus 5 is way better UI and much easier on the CPU (is this true?).

I may have to sell Avenger and get Nexus 5 instead.

I guess there is no demo version available? Is there a refund policy?

Anybody know how extensive the mod matrix is? Can I modulate modulation slots at least once?

This may be my favorite synth sampler ever! Effortlessly bringing in nice vintage samples with ease. The fx rock too. reFX killed every other sampler IMO other than Vengeance which they make too lol ..

Hmm... I'd personally hold off. It seems like it's better, but at this point, I'd hold on to VPS. I'm working on a video comparing the two.

Awesome! Thanks.

Looks like the modulation matrix as a whole is pretty capable due to how the Function Matrix works. Shouldn't run into any real obstacles.

Can you give a few quick reasons in words? My main gripes with Avenger is the UI and CPU usage. I know it's a supremely capable synth but I just don't feel like dealing with the sluggish and claustrophobic UI. I'm also really quickly running into CPU issues which is probably a Mac ARM thing (heard it's way better on Windows).

Is Nexus equally sluggish and CPU heavy on Mac?

I'm supposed to be on sabbatical, haha, but can't resist this release. Soundset/s incoming :D

I'm guessing the same rules apply, no tweaking factory stuff and selling, right.

What about layering a factory bell with custom wavetables or multisamples, is that a no-no?

I'll assume so. This should be fun!

If you are ok with fairly course control, in the sample editor you can create 1 variation for each velocity zone. They will be spread evenly from low to high velocity.

If you want more fine grained control, you need to set the velocity range of the oscillator. And then use a different sample for each velocity zone.

Create several variations in the sample editor for round robin.

Look how it's setup in the Hollywood Piano if you have it, and do the same.

We will continue to edit the manual and do some tutorial videos for the more in depth features.
Thanks!

What about round robins?

Couldn't agree more!

Encountering some bugs maybe right at the outset. Can't seem to modulate an a notch filter to an lfo. I try to modulate it at the master level and then just crashed on me. The cutoff on the filter doesn't seem to do anything on the notch filter, though keytrack does effect the sound yet it can't be modulated. Parameters don't have right click assign, all has to be done manually in mod matrix.

The sound is good though so far, besides these issues.

*Edit, able to modulate that notch filter now, weird. It might have something to do when switching the old school gui as I noticed the settings there don't match the old school gui when zoomed in on the "advanced" page or what have you.

The CPU is actually VERY well handled. It's mainly user experience. Even though VPS is a bit cluttered, everything is there in front of you.

Here's a pop quiz, from looking at the UI, how do you add effects to a specific layer?
Image
...
You have to right click on the layer at the top. Now that may seem obvious to someone who was using Nexus before or if you knew, but if you didn't, it can take some time to figure out.

Depending on how you use VPS, it can be more or less of a hassle when dealing with other things such as drum programming if you use VPS for that.

The sample editor (at this point in time anyhow) is also a little confusing. The manual that is linked in some previous posts does not give a full explanation of what things do.

When you import a sample, it mentions "Slice" and "Sensitivity"... How do those work? I've imported multiple samples and some get sliced and some don't. What does "Root Step" mean? I figured out what it meant, but that was from a guess. Also, what are those V1, V2, V3, tabs at the top in the sample editor? The sample editor is mentioned in the manual, but is never explained and is at this moment not as robust as the one in VPS... or if it is, it is not clear how to properly use it.

In VPS, you can fully dissect every part of the preset. However, you cannot pull apart the multisampled ones in Nexus to reverse engineer how they work.

Again, Nexus MIGHT be more flexible, but if you ae trying to do something pretty complex, you will be doing a lot of guess work. (I'm currently trying to figure out how slicing works)

So at best, I'd wait a bit.

If any of the devs want to give some insight on how things like the sampler editor works and how to use it to create slices from loops and make our own multisamples, that'd be wonderful. I can see this being pretty useful, but just a lack of info on how to do some of the more advanced things.

Post

Importing multi-samples is kind of a mess. I wish there was a way it would get the root notes from the file name. Auto detect root note usually always misses. If I select manually import first root note then select root step 6, so I'm sampling c and f#, it imports based on the order of the samples, paying no attention to the filename.

So

Sample c4
Sample c5
Sample c6
Sample f#4
Sample f#5
Sample f#6

It will load c4 correctly, but it will import next sample in order from above list, sample c5 to f#4, etc. instead of noticing the correct f#4 is actually 4 down from the list. Seems I need to go in there and rename the files to put in correct order.

I can append a filename 1 to each filename in order so next will be 2 etc, but I'll have to do this to all the samples I want to import.

Also, doesn't seem to read the loop points. I spent TOO much time manually assigning loop points that it's quite a bummer Nexus 5 won't read them. Please fix this!
