Hello everyone! :)

As we approach the end of another year, I am again seeking your input to unscientifically determine operating system platform popularity. I've been doing this once yearly for several years now, and it has been interesting to see the changes in popularity of the various operating systems on which music is produced. Also, this helps developers to determine where to focus development time for their plugin instruments and effects. This Poll will run for 14 days, and then will be ended until next year. During the polling time, I will be bumping this post to keep it near the top.

Please, check all boxes that apply to you. You can go back and change your selections if needed.

Thank you again for your help! :tu:

Vendor‑Dependent Copy Protection: Customers lose. Pirates win.
(Also: I'm Accused of lying about Linux—it boots, runs my pro audio workflow, stays stable, updates--though yearly dismissed as “niche”. Yet I'm the deluded one.)

Intend on going Linux in the majority. Getting the spouse to do that will take time though. Everything I read implies to me that Windows 11 is a half baked test of how much they can inflict on the users. So waiting to see what they do with the already announced workings of Windows 12.
My question here is how to get the Windows/Mac indoctrinated free from that slavery. How much deprogramming and what method to use for that.

Care to briefly summarize those stated changes in popularity?

Win10. Switched from MacOS. Much less hassle, more compatibility, less expensive. Will stay on it forever, given the sh*t MS does to Win11 :D

As a long term Windows, Linux, and Mac OS user what is this slavery you speak of?

No operating system limits freedom of choice more than Linux and makes you a slave to whatever the hell is available to run on it. That is true of general computing but especially in audio and video production

I have way more Freedom on Windows 11 than I do on any other operating system, using Windows I have complete control over the underlying hardware which I can also build, and have the ability to turn on or off pretty much everything in the OS that isn't working for me

Post

That's an illusion.
Freedom from thought is not freedom.
Right now I'm dealing with Windows deciding and turning off cores and the ability to turn them back on. It's also snuck in a bunch of junk programs and AI "assistant" that I don't want or need and I'm now researching how to remove them like I was able to do before for unnecessary Internet interference.

Windows (XP -> 11). Most plugins, including x86, work across the whole range.
