I doubt W7 is going to be supported. It's dead, Jim.

Even Windows 10 will be out of support this year.
Besides, I doubt he will be able to release a DLL (VST2), since Steinberg no longer authorizes VST2 to be released.

Many recent VST3 can run on Windows 7. This depends on Devkit version. Do not upgrade too much, and keep earlier versions, which, in VST3 format is still authorized by Big Brother authorities.
Hope too that Sheaf can think about keeping in safe places, securised, all sources, so that, for example in 10 or 20 years after release, could be made available, as , for example, "Synful Orchestra", realeased in 2005 for $350... and released as free in august 2024, so that it will run forever, or as "Wivi" Wallender instruments, made free in 2022 after years of commercial. This is very good to do like that = a real safe for global patrimony.
This is maybe out of subject and far ideas... But well, it keeps this forum alive

If Sheaf used JUCE 8 for this, it won't support Windows 7 nor 8.

If Sheaf used JUCE 8 for this, there is less of an excuse not to support CLAP or Linux.EvilDragon wrote: Tue Jan 28, 2025 3:56 pm If Sheaf used JUCE 8 for this, it won't support Windows 7 nor 8.
Vendor‑Dependent Copy Protection: Customers lose. Pirates win.
(Also: I'm Accused of lying about Linux—it boots, runs my pro audio workflow, stays stable, updates--though yearly dismissed as “niche”. Yet I'm the deluded one.)

Well, maybe. It's still a choice and it would depend on the amount of support that he decides he wants to give, or not.

hows the project coming along?sheaf wrote: Wed Jan 15, 2025 1:33 pm I don't want to give any more time estimates for a release, but I can report my progress.
All bugs I could find myself are fixed. For the beta version I just need to tighten up the measurements of the filter envelope rates. Then I need to do some performance optimization. AFM patches will all filters on currently take up quite a bit of CPU.
About 30% of the samples are done, so there's still a lot of work there. And I need to make a lot of presets too.

don't worry, it takes some time but it's in progress. Sheaf gives some news once a month average. No pressure
This will be a true main VSTi
( i saw yesterday some last version history of DSP56300 free emulation v1.4.2 :
they emulate Access Virus, Microwave, Nord Lead 2, ...
- Downgraded to Juce 7 to regain compatibility with Windows 7
maybe a good new that it seams to be possible.

WOW !!, into Vmware or another VM plateform ?frag wrote: Mon Feb 03, 2025 8:29 am For VST3, I use Win11 VM with Audiogridder, so I don't care if it runs on Win7.
But it would be better if it's Win7 compatible! It's possible with Juice 7.
Without any latency ? and with real sound hardware ?
Oh well... so the plugin parameters are not being part of the project, this is tricky,
and no way to have 16 of these tracks into CUBASE this way...

Try Audiogridder, you will love itcslevine wrote: Mon Feb 03, 2025 10:22 amWOW !!, into Vmware or another VM plateform ?frag wrote: Mon Feb 03, 2025 8:29 am For VST3, I use Win11 VM with Audiogridder, so I don't care if it runs on Win7.

Plugin parameters are saved with project, even if plugin runs in VM or different physical computer.
Latency is normal, just like with ASIO hardware.
You can connect Win7 and Win11 easily this way.
I expected glitches when everything runs on same machine, but no, it's very stable. When server and host are same PC, you simply use local GUI in AG server (so it's not double GUI) and it's perfect...

incredible !... and with Vmware ?
would it be possible to run... windows 98 too with a standalone synth linked as this ?
( "Seer Reality" soft synthetiser was running only on Win98 and never being upgraded as VSTi )

VMware is Ok. But Audiogridder is Windows 7 and up, it doesn't support XP or earlier OS, unfortunately.cslevine wrote: Mon Feb 03, 2025 1:16 pm incredible !... and with Vmware ?

...If you read the rest of the forum, though, you would see that they were very quick to say they would be moving back to JUCE 8 later this year, and for Win7 folks to be prepared for that.cslevine wrote: Mon Feb 03, 2025 7:07 am i saw yesterday some last version history of DSP56300 free emulation v1.4.2 :
