I am currently conducting an online survey for my Bachelor's thesis on the topic:

"How do analog and digital synthesizers influence the perception of authenticity in music production?"

We are looking for producers in the genres Techno, Progressive Trance, and Psytrance who have at least 3 years of experience working with these devices.

If this applies to you, feel free to reach out!

The survey takes approximately 5 minutes to complete.

Done. I’m curious to know your theorem or the hypothesis you are testing? Sounds interesting.

Likewise done. TBH I don't really understand the use of "authentic" for digital/analogue synths. It's not real because it's digital? Despite mostly preferring analogues, I've never seen digital synths as any less real, going back 30+ years.

I’m taking the survey now. Can you clarify what you mean by “ How important is the aspect of authenticity in your music production?” Then I’d be happy to finish the rest of the questions.

I mean how important authenticity is to you in your productions, and many thanks for participating in the survey.

I guess your question is regarding authentic analog synths vs. digital recreations of analog synths, and excludes authentic digital synths?

Exactly, the question is whether only analog synthesizers are authentic or not. Best regards!

OK, I hope that helps

Authentic to what?
- brass sound of an anlog is more authentic than digital brass sound?

Analog is reference, and is obviously authentic!!!!!

Only Academia can complicate simple things this much.

Uncle E remark, is probably what to go by, if about digital recreations of analog.

I'm not a target of survey, not my genre.....

Authenticity may be found in everything else but the used synthesizers: composition, instrumentation, arrangement, production, vocals, etc etc.

Whether the whole product is authentic or not, to me the sign is: do I sense the whole heart & soul was put into it. I don't think it matters whether the synths, effects or anything else used for producing it are real/analog or virtual/digital.

Only bad craftsmen blame their tools.
And a fool with a tool is still a fool.

But also, I'm outside of your selected demagogy.

First of all, thank you for your participation. You can still take part in the survey—just check "Other" when it comes to the genre. I appreciate it in advance and wish you a wonderful evening!

I filled out the survey. I think that tools do have an impact on the way we express ourselves. I don't have much to say about authenticity, as I don't think that comes from the tool. It's up to the artist to express themself authentically (or choose not to, as it's own form of artistic expression) with whichever instruments they use.

Authenticity is also something that is observed/perceived by the listener and informed by their own biases. That's just not something I put much thought into when I'm creating music.

Seems pretty limp for a thesis. Surely this survey is not part of the "data" you are analyzing?

You are on to something there.

Swedish actor Mikael Nyqvist did his own stunt in a Bond movie and broke his arm in the process.

Directors only comment: Very authentic
