I was test driving the demo of MultitrackStudio.
As it turns out, it doesn't fully work on Linux, but if you use the built-in Wizard and the Devices menu, you can get enough working to test it on Linux (via WINE).
It's a demo so it only allows 3 tracks but the MIDI and audio latency is really low and the MIDI editing is really nice.
I'm gearing up for switching back to Windows and possibly re-buying MultitrackStudio Pro Plus, so it felt kinda good to mess around with the demo. It was nice.

today i installed and tested Dead Duck Piano and Swierk Synth. Both are freewares at https://plugins4free.com
they both turned out pretty good and I'm happy about that. also I reinstalled cellofan, an old classic 32-bit favorite of mine.
i made a few presets to use later. i really need to focus on making presets like I used to do years ago. i mostly have mixing tools but I need sound design and composition tools.

working on Swierk synth helped me to remember some of the better sounds I used to get from hardware.

Rejigged my big 12u rack to be more standalone and played around with it after adding the Roti Pola.
As a CV mixer with attenuverters it is similar to the central part of a Maths but you get more feedback thanks to LEDs on each channel. Worked quite nicely in a patch I made to play around with summing different LFO sources (especially as you can mix them in as + or - voltages) into a pitch quantiser.

In the last couple days I worked on a drum intro to a cover of a song called "Stolen Moments". It was covered by Zappa and that's where we're leaning in our version.

i deleted some minus mixes and random bad alternative mixes to make more space for new tunes.
also i got rid of some samples that weren't properly tuned.

No music last weekend -- we had no power through most of the weekend thanks to the massive line of storms that rolled over the US. We spent most of the weekend at my parents' place since they have a generator. They lost a small ugly tree that was already in bad shape, but no other damage to their place or ours. (There were some houses in their neighborhood that fared a lot worse -- one was speared through the roof by a tree that a tornado picked up from somewhere else and threw at it.)

I have a plan for the next album though... game rules, almost.

1. Album title must start with E, and the first and last notes of the album must be E.
2. Tracks will be recorded in the order they'll appear on the album, and transition smoothly from one into the next.
3. Odd-numbered tracks: my only sound source will be bass guitar, processed and layered however I like.
4. Even-numbered tracks: begin with DecadeBridge Sn, end with Arturia Easel V. Anything else in between is fair game.

(Mostly I wanted to do the bass challenge, the rest is whimsy.)

I didn't have any time in the studio this weekend. I was helping a coworker who currently lives in Germany, clear out their storage space. It was a veritable time capsule of '90s music tech! I don't think anyone had been in there since 2005 but everything is in great condition.
They used to work for Alesis and Line6, so there are also some really interesting historical artifacts from those companies. Some really fascinating stuff.

Sorry to hear foosnark! Glad the family is okay.

I’ve been trying to learn everything about the camera I picked up. YT has lots of bold video titles but not as much supportive content to backup those claims. It’s been a weekend of RTFM and then taking cat pictures and cat videos as practice.

I’m happy I added the 20-60mm zoom lens because it’s helping figure functional distances by comparing focal lengths. I found a sweet spot at 40-50m for anything in the home.

I think 35mm would be great outside if I ever grab primes at 35 and 50 but that’s a next year problem as I’d love a macro lens next year too.

Otherwise just jamming on the modular rack having fun exploring ideas. And after adding Multimod, I’m trying to figure out all the ways I don’t need to use it, to better maximize the chosen shape and purpose for using it.

Picked it up too. Think I’d been waiting on a sale on v1 that never came and this was too good a deal to turn down.
Really liking things like the chaos osc LFO and being able to dial in offsets in the delay FX. Bit like Pigments in how you get a great overview but there’s much more depth a click away.

Last weekend I finished up what I am going to call a new genre of electronic music:
7/4 time at around 165bpm with heavily compressed drums
It isn’t going to be on the next album though because I think I want it on a release of strictly experimental stuff. I am segregating my music more than I ever used to.
Last night I got the other S/PDF cable so I could finally hear audio through the ES-10 Adat interface. I feel like my euro rack case is a proper instrument now! It is quite a sight to behold

I originally grabbed Serum used back in 2016, and used it heavily for a few months. But when I got into modular, I really only used Serum to edit wavetables. (I worked out a set of steps to create WaveEdit-compatible tables with it.)

With this update it's gone from "possibly the best wavetable synth of its time, but that time was an age ago in softsynth years" to "wavetables are just one possible starting point", which is the way I like it. The free upgrade really paid off.

For my own tastes it's not perfect -- there's no way to make the oscillators drone without holding a Note On message external to the synth, and I would really appreciate a slew limiter for MPE pressure. But it's really damn good, and fun to play with.

So far I have mainly been exploring what audio-rate modulation (including feedback) can do, and checking out the Spectral oscillators. There's a lot of depth to dig into (I didn't even look at the LFOs yet, other than slapping a basic slow triangle on the comb/diffusor filter cutoff or warp parameters)...
