Wikipedia defines the noise floor as “the measure of the signal created from the sum of all the noise sources and unwanted signals within a measurement system.”

Separating “unwanted signals” music can be challenging. For example, in the not-to- distant-past, distortion was considered an unwanted signal. Electronically generated sounds were not considered music. One goal of music is to elevate mere sound above the noise floor.

“Noise Floor III” begins with a mysterious piano sound from the distant past leading into an electric piano part that kicks off a more funk influenced fusion piece also featuring bass, drums, guitar, violin, and synthesizer.

Another outstanding piece! Thanks.

Yes, the piano starts quietly and slowly, then grows into a full song with
additional instrumentation. The synth solos are particularly well-crafted
— presumably played on the Linn instrument.

Overall: Beautiful jazzy, light-footed, melodic song! :tu:

I really enjoyed the Beck/Middleton/Hammer/Walden/Bascomb "Wired" vibes on here. Great mix too.

Good work :)

Hearing this I recalled Scofield's "Blue Matter", and some other of his 80s CDs.

Thanks, seismic1 and rp314 for the kind words. I am a big fan of Beck and Scofield (and of course Jan Hammer!).

jcub,
This sounds very cool. Reminds me a bit of Jeff Beck's "Star Cycle" (a big compliment). Very nice electric piano sound and playing, and synths. Excellent recording and song! I'm going to post a new thread soon; perhaps you could check it out.

Thank you - much appreciated. Star Cycle is a very cool tune. For me, Jeff Beck was the best of his generation (I know that is a controversial view!) with such amazing talent - the best at expressive playing with a tremolo bar, in my view.
