Does it let you add more than one filter from the "filter type" selection to a single sample? Can you effectively EQ as much as you want that way or is there a limit on number of filters?

Post

I purchased CHROMED, and all my previously purchased Beatmaker kits are automatically included in version 3. While convenient to have all of them in one plugin, the samples and loops cannot be shared across Beatmakers. For example, I cannot use a kick from Nemesis in Berserk, or a loop from Berserk in Vice. I suppose that will be included in Version 4.

Eh, I updated and not loving it so far. I can't find a way in the preset browser to audition loops so they are tempo synced with the DAW, it always uses the default BPM that is assigned to that particular loop. So I have no idea how the loops will sound wihen used at the BPM of the project. Also, the main page with the crappy looking icons at the bottom and the different drum icons flashing the whole time the beat is playing is obnoxious and distracting. It also appears like there are fewer variations per drum loop, you used to be able to select multiple verse, chorus, ending, etc. variations but there are only one or two of each now. The UI is also laggy as hell when switching between the different screens which is not great for workflow. Strange update IMHO. It was a good idea to consolidate and attempt to improve the browser and maybe others will like the updates but not for me, I regret upgrading at this point but just my 2c.

I would like to know this also please :?:

He already followed up, basically answering his own question.

An idiot on Set Theory:

The update price seems fair, but after realizing (thanks to a post on another site) that this moves from a fairly standard midi layout in v2 to a non-standard "all white keys" layout for the drums, I'm not going to update for the moment. It's too counterintuitive when trying to work quickly. And the problem is exacerbated by the fact that it appears the drum-key assignments are unlabeled on the UI (unlike in the previous version, where they were clearly labeled).

Plus, as Seangm notes above, there appear to be many fewer loops now.

I haven't updated, so maybe I'm missing something (all the above is based on screenshots), and I absolutely welcome being corrected. But if things are as they appear to me, this appears to be a massive step backwards in usability, at least for me.

Which is a shame, because I think the Beatmaker products are terrific. Luckily, v2 continues to work for the moment.

Thanks, sorry I missed that :D

Guess it still doesn't let you load your own samples right?

Nope

Hmmm. You can't completely bypass the mix preset effects. It says 0%, but it still has an effect.

Also, labels are still there, but only they only appear with mouse hovering.

Although I don't see a way to add user samples, Midi export is drag to host for all patterns. Super easy.

Overall, while a bit basic (IMO) its still an inexpensive way to add some different options.

Are there advantages to upgrading if you don't care about a reduction to your plugin list, unified interface, or optimizations for smaller keyboards?

Seems the standouts are the mixer page and the loop (MIDI) browser that can be filtered by song structure.

The edit page per sample for swapping samples (within only the current pack) is an improvement over the dropdown list, only because it offers Attack, Decay, Dynamic and Pitch options on the same page.

Otherwise, the unified plugin comes up a bit short in that samples are locked to each pack and so are the loops.

I would think the biggest advantage of having the unified plugin is being able to mix & match from each pack to come up with something unique. I get that U-Jam is designed to be ultra simple, but I can’t help thinking it’s a missed opportunity.

I agree with the missed opportunity. This could have been so much better. The ability to modify the loops within beatmaker would have been nice.

Its not U-Jam designed to be ultra simple, its beatmakers, these are NOT the real drums (virtual drums), these are just kind of toyish quick for whatever level of sketch.

I updated the ones I have (mostly free or really cheap) for 19 bucks out of curiosity and of course nothing NEEDED but....nice toy to spent an evening with and knowing its there if needed for quick...

While usually I prefer to drive evrything form notes from the piano roll I think for this level its ok to just drag the patterns to the track. Nobody would do anything deeper with these patterns anyway....

Just my 2cents....
