Did I see Automation Clips?🤟🤟🤟 Yes please!

Looking at the recent contributers on the GitHub there's not so much figbug and Jules has done a bit recently. There's activity anyway.

Thanks, Jan!

This appears to be the repository for Tracktion's open source audio engine. So it won't contain Waveform specific changes. It does at least give us some idea of what's going on behind the scenes.

True, but there is a section about the Waveform manual 😉

I am a Reaper user who is trying to switch over to Waveform for its streamlined workflow. However, there are some issues I have with it that makes it difficult for me to use it.

1. ARA: Waveform is marketed to have ARA built in but it only works with Melodyne and doesn't work with any other ARA Plugin. It would be nice to have complete ARA2 implementation.

2. PORTAMENTO: The samplers don't have portamento and as such, there's no way to do 808 glides and similar things with them.

3. COMPING: The comping system in Waveform is not very well thought out. If you're going to comp in Waveform, it has to be done in one take otherwise, it won't work. Say you're recording a song and you had a great idea for a guitar line and you loop recorded it in like 5 times. So now, you have 5 takes of that guitar and have comped it. Now let's say the next time you opened up the project, you decided to play a little pass in that guitar line differently, you wouldn't be able to loop just that part and punch it in and create another bunch of takes in addition to the ones already on the track. If you try to do that, you'd have 2 completely different audio clips that contain takes and play together simultaneously with no way to actually comp them together. The first time this happened to me, it was torture.

4. CLIP FX: When you add multiple plugins to a clip in Waveform, it creates multiples of the clips in place. One for each of the Plugins you add. This quickly begins to look like the default take system in Reaper and it doesn't look good at all. There should just be a list of the plugins with power buttons by the side to turn the plugins on or off just like in Cakewalk Sonar instead.

5. SUGGESTION: This is wishful thinking but if Waveform could add a suproject system like in Reaper, it would be a much better DAW for mastering projects than it is right now. It would work much like the mastering page in Studioone just that, it could be implemented using just a regular project template like in Reaper. Having it like it is in Studioone one wouldn't be bad either. Just a suggestion.

Post

A great feature Waveform could implement would be the ability to "snap user midi clips to Chord Track" like Cubase and StudioOne.

@dePUNDIT, if I understand it correctly, then this post viewtopic.php?p=9093029#p9093029 of forum member @pough today mentions the Waveform function which you may have missed out.
Classical guitar --> Line Audio CM4 @ SSL12 --> KDE-Plasma @ Debian-Linux --> Waveform PRO 13.5

Talby, I think someone needs to test this (probably Pough, as he's great at volunteering to break stuff). Something in my memory says this doesn't necessarily work for audio comps, but it's been quite a while since I've tried it. This feature may have been added as the complaint has come up a couple times before.
Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and even Deezer, whatever the hell Deezer is.

It would be nice to be able to add takes to a comp easily, but it can be done awkwardly. It might not work how you want it to work. Here's how I would do it.

1. Unpack the original comp to new tracks.
2. Record another set of takes.
3. Unpack the new comp to new tracks.
4. Select all the resulting clips.
5. Pack them into a new comp.

Comp clips have a "Unpack to new tracks" function in the + box. It does not delete the comp clip or track. It just creates new tracks with plain track names.

When multiple audio clips are selected, there is a "Pack Clips to Takes" function that can be found in either the Actions tab of the Browser or the expanded Controls Panel.

Note that unpacking a comp to new tracks just outputs the individual takes, not anything you have comped (ie. selected bits from various takes). I don't know if that matters to you. If it does, maybe you should flatten the first comp instead of unpacking it.
Surely there must be consensus by now...

I'll give this method a try. However, this should work seamlessly by default. If any of the devs are here, please make this work better. Also, please add a legato/portamento function to your samplers.

Sure. Some comping is better than no comping. Improved comping is better than basic comping. I think comp consolidation would be an excellent feature. Meanwhile all the people who recorded to tape are judging us for not practicing enough to get it right the first time.

Well, we had punch-in/punch-out, too, to be fair.
