Agreed. This is something I try to put into words from time to time, to do with bitwig. I switch between cubase 14 and bitwig 6 almost every day, and... bitwig's "usability" is superior to cubase, even if cubase has a gargantuan number of overall features. I enjoy my time in bitwig more than c14 because bitwig feels fresh, fast, intuitive, and focused, while cubase is massive, functional, powerful, satisfying. I do enjoy both, now.

Being entirely honest(Ive previously written volumes of angry feedback about cubase), steinberg *has* improved c14 over c10 through and c13, in terms of stability, features (modulators, an idea borrowed from bitwig), etc. All the things that drove me away from cubase a few years ago appear to have been resolved (and I didnt even have to buy a new PC).

Ive rambled. This wasnt about other DAWs, but I felt like I had to talk about cubase vs bitwig here.
It’s better to compare it with Live, but that one’s less coherent than Bitwig. On the other hand, you can get devices there that don’t even exist in BWS — for example, entire device families that link the Session and Arranger views ... for money

or Song Sketch2 or etc.

... or they just want DAW to play music not wiring sinusoids... ;) can't even load a VST in Grid...

I don't really like the instruments or effects in Bitwig, but it truly excels at note-based operations — like slicing multi-channel MIDI note streams, triggering effects from specific note positions, creating broken rhythms, building question–answer structures on both macro and micro levels, and stuff like that.

Of course, you can do all that in Ableton Live too, but the workflow is far more cumbersome in this specifc area — even if money isn’t an issue and you can buy all the paid Max for Live devices you want (btw, since I mentioned it — under Ableton Live this condition-based note filtering can be done with https://ldmdesign.org/midi-filter-10/ )

ps. Let’s hope version 6 finally comes out of beta, because this is about as far as you can get with it right now

For me, the only comparison is cubase. Live never worked for me, so I never needed to seek an alternate to Live. ; )

^^^ the operations involving groups of notes are missing from Bitwig; the basic, not-so complex Grid presets can still be somewhat balanced out with some extra effort(at basic level), Live is good too...has retro record and one-click MIDI bounce etc.— I actually like both of them

Live is more sophisticated in many areas(expect routing and modulation and Grid), but to be fair, it’s had quite a few years of head start...but honestly, I like it mainly because of those note-group operations I mentioned above

I’d say check it out on Splice — it’s free for 3 days. See if there’s any bug that actually blocks you. For brainstorming in the Grid it’s already perfectly fine, though I wouldn’t trust my life to it just yet.

That might be the issue if you’ve got stucking notes, but that specific problem didn’t occur for me on mac... In Splice I’ve got Bitwig Studio v6.0 Beta 4 — so the latest one
