The factory presets are the friends we made along the way.

Or more seriously, we are collecting a factory bank now and it will be there before we call it 1.0 but right not it just ships with a 256 wide init bank

Ah, I See.

On the subject of presets, I can't think of a better synth to learn sound design on.

It's simple and logically laid out. Get in there and start turning knobs and soon you'll be making your own presets.

I concur!

A little warning about the Rand button: If it decides to switch to the L4 filter you'll get 500+ dB of gain boost. You'll want a limiter/clipper/muter in your plugin chain to protect your ears and maybe hardware.

Post

This is what we recommend as standard procedure when testing nightlies!

I do wonder if this is really in every case when switching to L4 or if it depends on some other factors.

Post

I've really hammered that button looking for any other clues but, for me at least, L4 is the one identifiable culprit. If I switch to it manually using the UI there's no problem.

Post

Can you note if it ALWAYS does it, regardless from which filter type you got to L4, or if it happens only between certain filter types (like from 2 pole to 4 pole Xpander L4)?

Post

I haven't been able to notice any pattern in terms of switching from one particular filter to L4.

If Rand switches on 4-Pole but not the Xpand button, and I then manually enable Xpand and find that it's been set to L4, that triggers the gain boost too.

If I manually set the filter to L4, then press Rand and Rand keeps it on L4, it doesn't boost the gain. It has to be switched to L4 from something else.

I was just taking a peek at this and while I couldn't repro it exactly I found a really nasty error with setting integer paras in the randomizer which I've since fixed. The next nightly might solve this problem. I was able to trigger debug asserts with the randomizer which I think if unlucky would blow up the filter config as you say.

Post

Just tried the new nightly and it seems to have done the trick – thanks. It took a huge number of clicks to get L4 to appear just a couple of times but on both those occasions there was no problem.

Post

Awesome thanks!

Turns out lots of other values were also wrong which is how I found it but I think only the expander mode randomization ended up with random memory weighting the poles. Appreciate the test!

Could a graphics wizard out there make a darker and less contrasty theme? Or is it possible for me to access the files somehow to do it myself?

Edit: Nvm, it's in the Documents folder :dog:

Edit edit: the User theme is very fuzzy at 125% zoom, is it possible to make it sharp like the Default (embedded) theme?

Not really... Embedded theme is fully vector, the default theme is raster.

Bugger. Alright, thanks.
