Therefore it makes zero sense to buy Absynth as a stand-alone right now since the upgrade price is the same as for Komplete.
From past experience the upgrade price to Komplete regular which "should" carry Absynth 6 will be $199 until almost a year later when it will drop to $99. So if you want it as cheap as possible with anything else released before Komplete hits you have to wait at least a year from now. I do not know when a super blow out sale would happen and the Absynth upgrade drops to $50, maybe never? It could be during their "Summer of Sound" this year in June.

Personally with normal upgrades I usually waited until Summer of Sound sales and get Konplete then, ensuring bug fixes for the upgrades, and the lowest price, but lately Komplete has been about kontent, Play series "instruments" etc. so I upgraded Kontakt for $49 on Black Friday and decided I'd rather not wait until Komplete gets Absynth. It's unlikely that they put out anything I really want in Komplete when 16 drops, but if they do I make that decision then.

There's all kinds of things you can be upset at NI about but their upgrade cycles are so regular you can pretty much guarantee no pregnancies. You can pretty much choose how you engage with them. My gambit here is that 16 does not introduce Battery 5 or Reaktor 7. If it does both I would likely upgrade price be dammed.

Go figure, but works... loading and scanning is super fast. For our own stuff we simply now just replacing the zip with updated one with the resaved borked ones, I guess you gotta do it for any of your own or other third part stuff you find.
Thanks that worked amazingly - will pass on to the devs

Hehe I guess once a QA always a QA. Instinct ;)

In your opinion will Absynth 6 be included in all three tiers?
I need to make a decision to buy now or wait.
I buy now will end up with two Absynth 6's when I buy Komplete 16.
I don't need two Absynth 6's.

But hey ! It's NI !
Fixed that for you!
The AU of Absynth 5 works just fine on apple though. UI is just quite small.
Not only AU. I use the VST in Bitwig (which runs natively) on an M1 Mac, and it works perfectly fine. Even better than Absynth 6 right now, with all its issues (what happened to proper beta testing?).

I can use version Absynth 5 as long as Apple continues to support Rosetta in my macOS version. By that time they remove it, Absynth 6 will be cheap or a free giveaway.

I've no idea!

But if you buy A6 now you can sell that license after you upgrade your Komplete.

Evil being affiliated has to be more cautious in his replies, but it would be a total break from 25 years of convention if NI did not roll Absynth 6 into Komplete 16. The only synth type instruments they don't always roll into regular Komplete are standalone Reaktor Ensembles from what I know.

It also makes more sense to wait if you already own Komplete, since there's a possibility that buying Absynth 6 outright would get you a discount on Komplete. I already owned Absynth with Komplete, but did not want to wait for 16 to drop, since it could be as late as next Fall.

Last week I wrote a letter to Native Instruments:

Hello,

I am a big fan of Absynth.

Many of us got Absynth as the result of a Komplete purchase.
NI please make the following offer to us Absynth fans:
Hey, buy Absynth 6 now and when you purchase Komplete 16 you will get a $50 discount.

I do not want to buy Absynth 6 now for $99 and then get a second Absynth when I buy Komplete 16. I have no use for two Absynth 6’s. Does this make sense? The good news is that this offer can be implemented at any time and include all from the day of the release.

Now is the best time to do this and make everyone happy and motivate them to buy Absynth 6 today. When Komplete 16 is released the $50 discount will motivate us to purchase it. This way you motivate us to buy Absynth 6 now and when Komplete is released we again be motivated to buy Komplete. Win - Win.

My feeling is that this should apply to all that purchase Absynth 6. Set the dead-line to March of 2026 or better yet, end the offer upon the release of Komplete 16.

I don't really monkey with Komplete Kontrol, so I don't know. The UI size don't bug me too much, because I keep an old monitor as a third monitor for old plugins. Works like a charm. What stopped me from using Absynth 5 was more about me getting a GEM S2 ROMpler with polyphonic aftertouch. After that became a big part of how I like to play, plugins that don't understand it just fell by the wayside. MSoundFactory really took the place of Absynth, even though it's obviously not a 1:1 replacement.

Sadly, that's not how it works with Native Instruments. Other companies calculate how much you own when they charge you for an upgrade, but not them. This works both ways, though. You can go for a while buying nothing and pay the same price as the idiots like me who just paid for Absynth 6. The key is, wait until the Komplete upgrade is half price.

I think the NI model is a bit strange as it does encourage people to take the bundles over single products as Komplete is such great value…so I am not complaining! Killohearts have the best model (individual prices to complete your collection based on what you own) but NI have their own model that obviously works for them (or I assume they would change it)
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S88MK3, S1, BWS, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6 Pro3, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone II, OP1-F, OPXY, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

I've very well orchestrated in my dealings with Ni and Komplete, owned it since v2, and after 6 or so I started skipping an upgrade, if you can hold off for an entire upgrade it's a ridiculously great deal.
Lately though, it's all Play libraries, so I upgraded to Ultimate 10 to an upgrade of 12 on sale right when 13 hit which gave me 13. Dropped down to regular Komplete 14 mostly for Kontakt 7 I believe?
Anyway getting Kontakt 8 for $49 made more sense than upgrading Komplete again, even Ultimate isn't that great if you have 13U. So all told Komplete 16 will have to have something like an upgraded Reaktor or really great Battery version to be half interesting considering.

All that to say NI's pricing structure has never been an issue to me, it's the depreciating of great things for various reasons: Rig Kontrol, Kore, Spectral Delay etc. Kore was the heart of my live setup with Live, to this day Ableton's approach to changing instruments you want to play live in Live, sucks ass compared to what Kore did.

It's not just NI, Arturia are guilty of the same practice, except for Pigments, but those free updates are being subsidised by V/FX Collection users! 75e to buy a single synth like JUP-8000 during a 50% off sale or 99e to update V Collection during a 50% sale? Of course users will wait it out as long as possible for the next bundle increment to have one or more new synths for a few extra €, compared to buying single licenses. I'm not complaining though because I upgraded to VC11 from VC8 this BF primarily for JUP-8000, but I also got Acid-V, MiniBruteV, MiniFreakV and the Augmented Series, which isn't bad for 99e :D . I might have opened my wallet sooner and possibly spent more during the interim, if single licenses were more attractive, but they weren't and that's OK, I'm happy to skip a few versions and wait for a bundle upgrade sale. I'm still on K13U and the release of Absynth6 is reason enough to upgrade K16U when it's released and with a 50% sale of course

That's why historically they have tended to release single products at least 6 months before a new version of Komplete. This encourages anyone impatient to get the single product to get it early, but more at a premium, while anyone else can wait. However I suspect that worked better when NI was releasing more ground breaking products like Absynth and Reaktor, than just the next content library for Kontakt which I guess most people are happy to wait for - or even skip a few versions until there is enough to justify upgrading. That may have been an economic factor in bringing Absynth back.

Coincidently, I also upgraded from V8 to V11 this year!- Komplete I tend to upgrade every 2-3 years, I upgraded last year but I will upgrade next year (in the first sale) to get Absynth so I guess as crazy as it all is...it does sort of work!
