Well, NI is really the only thing I dislike about Kontakt.
Reminds me of that "you know what the difference is between a ___ and a ___?" sex joke. (Left blank for obvious inappropriate triggers.)

maybe it's gaining some momentum...traditionally kontakt developers audioifier and sonora cinematic just released new products for soundbox...curious why they chose it over the alternativesmabian wrote: Sun Feb 01, 2026 10:23 pm Anybody mentioned AudioModern Soundbox already? It was recently updated with official Linux support, and it's not bad at all imo...

I do not get the hype. Their video which claims to build a virtual instrument in under a minute is a bad joke.
The sampler I dream of would take a whole recording, cuts it up, finds the pitches and dynamics and simply distributes it automatically to key zones and round robins… Then I would only need some fine tuning to polish it up…
In the days of AI that should be an easy task for my neural processors…
That was my hope when I read the heading of the video…

So you're mad that it doesn't do something it never claimed to do or that anyone else has done yet? It's a bad joke for those reasons?
Sure, it would be great if it could do all the stuff you're suggesting, but this is not even 1.0 of a virtual instrument sampler. So first thing it has to do before version 1 is be a sampler VI. After that, they'll look to refine it. I doubt automating all the tedious parts of sampling (chopping samples, selecting the good ones, mapping the pitches) is really part of the roadmap. Would I complain if someone did that? Hell no.
But be realistic.

I think i'll stick to what i have and protect my investments. Same for many other companies which have their own sample players. I'm not going to install tons of them in parallel and spend my time maintaining or buying libraries twice that i already have. It also makes it easier for me to ignore offerings of many companies by not getting involved in their eco systems. Less GAS is can't be bad.

The video title is either clickbait or poorly worded. He should change it from "KODA - Build an Instrument in Under a Minute" to "KODA - A 1 Minute Video on How to Build an Instrument".Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Sat Feb 07, 2026 5:33 pm So you're mad that it doesn't do something it never claimed to do or that anyone else has done yet? No, they said it would be the sampler I always dreamed of, and the video just lasted a minute, to build that instrument probably needed hours. When marketing is so far away from reality, its a bit amusing, that is all… I am not mad at all btw. Just amused…Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Sat Feb 07, 2026 5:33 pm So you're mad that it doesn't do something it never claimed to do or that anyone else has done yet? It's a bad joke for those reasons?

Fair point. But I still thought it was pretty easy compared to trying to do that in Kontakt. Though, last time I tried was probably 15 years ago or something.

Microft DOS was released in 81 and evolved via 16 bit Windows to the 32 bit Windows of 95/98/ME.
It took 20 years before that kludge of a code base was replaced with Windows XP in 2001, which used 32 bit Windows NT as the starting point.
Kontakt was first released in 2002, so that's 24 years ago which is longer than the time span between DOS and XP.
XP still had to handle backwards compatibility but at least 32 bit apps ran natively on the base 32 bit O/S.
Could Kontakt have added a new engine ages ago but kept a compatability mode for old libraries?
Freeze the compatibility mode and just add bug fixes while focusing on developing the new engine.
Or release Kontakt X 1.0 which includes a license for the last version of legacy Kontakt?
As it stands, there's a risk that Kontakt becomes the legacy app anyway and someone else develops what Kontakt X could have been.
It seems that a number of major developers that have stayed with Kontakt are also looking to jump ship.
A lot of the very largest have already moved on.
Maybe the industry needs a new platform to gain enough traction before the exodus becomes unstoppable.
If there's too much fragmentation, it's more tempting to stay with what you know.
KODA looks interesting but 1.0 will just be the start.
I wonder how much they will include in the initial release as there's always that trade off between features and timescale.
The more I think about NI, the less positive I feel about the future.
If the AI bubble bursts before NI gets back on its feet, it could even disappear.
Kontakt isn't too big to fail.

Koda claims its the sampler I always dreamed of. It isn’t!
Instead I found the sampler I always dreamed of. Its hidden within a wavetable synth and does exactly what I always wanted. Not only does it map multiple samples automatically, it turns them into super wavetables which you can tweak in ways you’ve never seen before and most likely never see in any sampler…
Instead of a multi GB sample library, you get the same or even better sound quality, but much less space waisted…
The only thing missing would be the cutting, but that is something you would have to tweak at least by hand anyway…

How does it deal with loop points? That's a problem area for Blofeld.
