I'm tempted to jump on the Hans Zimmer spring flash sale but I've had some bad experiences with UJAM and the UJAM App. Did they ever change it or is it still always online protection?

pretty sure it's the same.
i got tired of the constant de-authorisation of my plugins,
i refuse support them any more, and i uninstalled all Ujam stuff.
it's totally unacceptable

Need to be online to download and initially activate our plug-ins, but can run the plug-ins with your machine offline as needed. The App and background processes shouldn't have a negative impact so if having trouble please start a ticket at support.ujam.com so we can try to help. Thanks!

but that's utter horseshit, i've been though all of this with UJAM support, over and over.
The ONLY 'solution' to prevent UJAM plugins from de-authorising is have the UJAM app always open. That is a f**king joke. If you've authorised a plugin, there is NO excuse for it to ever become not authorised unless manually and intentionally so. The UJAM authorisation model is not acceptable. Do you know how frustrating it is to regularly open projects that won't run without needing to go though a long process of update and re-authorisation!? What about opening a project for a client and this happening!? or being in a position of not having internet and half the project's plugins being de-authorised?
The support solution is to have the UJAM app always open and being always connected to the internet.

f**k UJAM and their always online protection

That does sound frustrating and I'm sorry if we were unable to resolve this for you. I'll try to find those tickets and review this with the team to see where we can improve. -j

I'll tell you where you can improve.
You can ask the extremely wealthy Mr Zimmer or Mr Williams to refund me the hundreds of dollars i invested in your company that lost me about the same in work. Due entirely to UJAM authorisation. If you're actually genuine in what you just said?

Sucks to be an early investor.
Especially now you've done the industry standard devaluation of any possible resale value.
