Hopefully you know I was kidding.starflakeprj wrote: Sun May 03, 2026 12:33 amYeah, sure, we can argue. But that scenario is basically self-inflicted.Echoes in the Attic wrote: Sat May 02, 2026 11:53 pm But but but, what if you log out before you go offline? Like you just can’t help yourself and are compelled to hit the log out just before going offline and then you need to use it while offline. THEN WHAT? Do you need this spelled out for you or something???!! If you do I’m not here to explain to you, only to argue.
Isn’t that a bit like locking yourself out of your own house? You leave the keys inside, close the door, and immediately realize what you’ve done. Do you blame the construction company for building the house with a lock on the door?
The software works offline as long as you don’t log out and deactivate it. Logging out is the equivalent of throwing away your own access and then blaming the construction company.

But as I wasn't really sure I came up with quite a silly comparison

No not you, the person who has now posted a dozen times that he won’t buy the synth due to the log in. So many threads derailed about copy protection, I just want to see posts about music!starflakeprj wrote: Sun May 03, 2026 8:21 amI'm on your ignore list?

Actually, yeah I have quite a few plugins that do that. I've recently installed Decimort2 and if you load that up in the DAW it greets you with a login screen. I didn't bother though because in the end it's exactly the same as pretty much all online authorization schemes. It doesn't matter if it's in the plugin or outsourced to a 3rd party application. The concept is still the same.TheMaestro wrote: Sun May 03, 2026 2:36 am Another one that doesn't understand.
Does any other of those plugins you mention require to log in to the plugin itself, require you to STAY logged in, and if you log out and is offline you can't use them?
And no one said "supposed to use it offline". That's just even sillier.
The authorization process usually stores data on your computer to save the "authorized" state. The plugin then looks for that data on your computer to check if it's activated or not. Most plugins will show you "authorized" or whatever on the GUI while ULTRA calls it "logged in". The dev also confirmed that here: viewtopic.php?p=9236958#p9236958
Maybe he should rephrase that to "authorized"?
For some weird reason you are triggered so hard by the word "login" that you completely disregard that the bad things with "having to always be logged in" seemingly do not apply to ULTRA. Namely, an active internet connection and an active server session. This is why we typically hate "always online" software, because the second your internet (or the server) goes down your software stops working.
If you don't care about offline usage of the plugin, what are we even talking about? If you are "logged in" to ULTRA but can still use it without an active internet connection, what's the issue?
If you're concerned about tracking it is WAY better to instead use a firewall or deactivating your internet completely. Even if you "logout" it is extremely easy for a client application to still have some kind of file on your computer that can tell the server who you are when phoning home.
I mean what is your theory here - that the dev lies about the plugin not phoning home to track you but somehow not lies about the logout function erasing all data that may identify you? This makes no sense at all.

Vital and VCV Rack, at least the paid versions. Cherry Audio plugins and Tracktion plugins, all have account logins (no logout button though, but you are getting logged out randomly). Not to mention all plugins asking for you account credentials, but "only" have a de-activate button. Which is definitely not the same depending on whom you're asking.

No. You're the one confused about "logged in".Most plugins will show you "authorized" or whatever on the GUI while ULTRA calls it "logged in". The dev also confirmed that here: viewtopic.php?p=9236958#p9236958

And from your quoted link there, from the dev himself: "Logging out deactivates the plugin, so no".
You can't use the synth if you log out. So how does that not apply to Ultra???For some weird reason you are triggered so hard by the word "login" that you completely disregard that the bad things with "having to always be logged in" seemingly do not apply to ULTRA.
No one said that. So seem to still be confused. If you don't care about offline usage of the plugin, what are we even talking about?
You really should stop embarrassing yourself now.I mean what is your theory here - that the dev lies about the plugin not phoning home to track you but somehow not lies about the logout function erasing all data that may identify you? This makes no sense at all.
