+1 Yes and he didn't reduce the UI to a bunch of very simple shapes. It can be done but it takes skills.kingtubby wrote:Sorry, slightly off topic, but the Cytomic plugins scale beautifully. I don't know what method he used but he did a great job, imo.

Didn't read the whole thread, but has it occurred to anyone that the screenshot might just be a WIP? It really looks to me like some sort of placeholder GUI. Not to interrupt the griping, but... yeah.

This. Not that a well designed GUI isn't important. FX seem really responsive though and Strobe 2 turned out pretty well, i'm sure Geist 2 will be no different.dredd i knight wrote:I think the gui is fine but tbh, I'm more interested in how they improve on Geist itself. Yeah the looks are important, but the improvements they making sound really good.... This thread seems stuck on the looks, and I'd have thought anyone interested in Geist would be more interested in the programs actual improvements...

I have Hive set to default to 130% - It is sharp and it works great. That is a real change from how they used to appear at odd percentages.ENV1 wrote:As for the UI thing, yesterday i had the chance to take a look at the recently released BeatZille, and from what i could tell its all still the same (one set of static images) except for the fact that the image resources are now made precisely twice as large as the UI is at 100%, which means 100% is really 50% from an image-size perspective, hence the more you blow the UI up the sharper the images get simply because you are getting closer and closer to their actual (100% sharpness) size.pdxindy wrote:You obviously haven't checked in a while
The U-he GUI's have mostly been updated (A new Zebra GUI is in beta) and are now crisp at all sizes. Give Hive a try for example...
So no real changes here, except for the image size doubling. (Which definitely makes a lot of sense since the interpolation is actually pretty good in this case.) But what i said about loss of sharpness still applies; there will always be some amount of interpolation-degradation unless you set the UI size to 200%. It just cant be helped.

Of course it is... that was even stated...ariston wrote:Didn't read the whole thread, but has it occurred to anyone that the screenshot might just be a WIP? It really looks to me like some sort of placeholder GUI. Not to interrupt the griping, but... yeah.

Can you point me to a post where someone from fxpansion says this is a "placeholder" ?

Could be because downscaling works better than upscaling.pdxindy wrote:I have Hive set to default to 130% - It is sharp and it works great. That is a real change from how they used to appear at odd percentages.
(Assuming they all use double size images now so that 100% UI size is 50% image size.)
I got curious and checked. To me, and please correct me if im wrong, it seems the method used is quite similar to the above, i.e. 200% appears to be the 'native' size and then everything is downscaled from there. (Which means there is interpolation.) Its different though in that it supports linear/continuous scaling as well as pre-set percentages.kingtubby wrote:Sorry, slightly off topic, but the Cytomic plugins scale beautifully. Which brings us to the 'precision' aspect i mentioned earlier. Now before you watch this, please note that im not 'bashing' anything here. Thats not what i come here for. Im merely demonstrating one adverse effect of linear scaling to reiterate a point i made, because a picture says it much better than words ever could. So this is not meant to complain or offend anyone, its simply a piece of information.
OK, so what are we looking at.
Focus on the E letters in the area i circle with the mouse. At 200% the centerlines of the E are in the center. At 100% the font is already too small to have the centerlines in the center, and there is noticable blurring as well. It gets worse downscaling even more, and better from 100% upward.
A second effect that can be observed is how the text keeps 'jumping' about, often even touching the label above or below. Needless to say that this does not happen with a static UI.
This thing is 9MB. It might take a moment to fully load. Click to view.
