AFAIK if you have Zebra and Dark Zebra the upgrade to Zebra 3 is the grand total of nil.

That is fair enough, but this is a thread about Alpha 1AnalogGuy1 wrote:Everyone's situation is different. If I were basing this purely on fun, I'd want to see him release all kinds of new plugins as well. (And make his Prophet emulation polyphonic).
Why did it turn into a thread about Zebra 3 ?

You guys forget one thing, and that is that Urs is a thinking human being, in this business for a couple of years, and surely knows how to run his business.
But, i guess you can't complain if you get people to be emotionally involved, when you're so close to your customers. Nonetheless, i just imagined what a difference this is compared to companies like Steinberg, where whole of KVR is upset, when they charge you 50 € for a .5 upgrade, even if it features 2 new synths sometimes. Maybe they should consider to hire a forum rep, who's there for the community, and strokes their heads 24/7.

But that is like one of coolest things with u-he, to be able to talk and discuss directly with the creator.chk071 wrote:You guys forget one thing, and that is that Urs is a thinking human being, in this business for a couple of years, and surely knows how to run his business. But, i guess you can't complain if you get people to be emotionally involved, when you're so close to your customers. If sort of a sales rep (ala Peter of IK Multimedia) were instead to handle public relations for u-he, like in this forum, I predict that sales would go down as a lead zeppelin

Yep, Urs said that.woodsdenis wrote:AFAIK if you have Zebra and Dark Zebra the upgrade to Zebra 3 is the grand total of nil.
Whoever wants music instead of noise, joy instead of pleasure, soul instead of gold, creative work instead of business, passion instead of foolery, finds no home in this trivial world of ours.

Definitely. But if it leads to people notoriously defending, or feeling entitled to speak for the dev, it's a bit over the top really.Numanoid wrote:But that is like one of coolest things with u-he, to be able to talk and discuss directly with the creator.chk071 wrote:You guys forget one thing, and that is that Urs is a thinking human being, in this business for a couple of years, and surely knows how to run his business. But, i guess you can't complain if you get people to be emotionally involved, when you're so close to your customers. No one will stop people to donate whatever they want to U-he!
I bought Zebra HZ mainly because i will get Zebra 3 then too without knowing if that will ever released!
I know U-he is a well known company but generally i don't trust anyone....including myself
Not interested in the Re-Pro One (tryed the Alpha of course) yet but that's of course my personal problem.
I would buy every U-he product if they add proper multi-touch support
Talking about on screen keys with X/Y modulations etc.
I hope some day they stop emulating things and do another more innovative thing like a new step in physical modelling.
However, i wish U-he all the best of course!

Back on topic Repro research ware almost trashed the song (in combination with the host) I was working on due to its CPU use before I could even bounce properly. To be fair I duplicated the track in Cubase by accident and it hit 100pct, red lights etc on CPU meter, loads of drops outs and then despite removing both instances of repro - I keep back ups - and I have shelved it and rebuild the project froma back up after exporting MIDI parts. It certainly gave Cubase's ASIOGUARD something to think about
The plan was to duplicate and put a synth in place with much less CPU use. But sadly the project was never the same again after an hour messing around. It hit end stops even without repro in the project anymore so seemed to somehow corrupt the project. I had MIDI parts playing that did not even exist in the song !
So do beware it is not a synth to use in an actual song at this point in my opinion and if you do ensure you have multiple back ups. (possibly with another synth taking the place of the research ware, good for Urs' feedback, bad for making music at this time.)
I would like to see the CPU use drop by 75pct or more of its current usage. I appreciate it is research ware but that has scared me slightly. That it may not be released in full this year has also took me off the boil on this one. I won't be rushing into it now. A cautious approach will ensue, I will be very interested in the demo to see where CPU use is sitting.

Well... I am also suspicious, since I bought Zebra 1 at a very special price during the group buy pre-launch, when I was part of the Beta Testing Team of Emagic (where Zebra was first started to be discussed). Urs was basically uknown from the general public back then (although he was noticed for being an early adopter of AUs, and helped evangelizing them on the plug-in creators crowd, having even created Zoid as a proof of concept of what could be done in AU - Urs, feel free to correct me, if I am saying something wrong).beely wrote: And yes, I still feel (a bit) guilty for the £10 Zebra1 to Zebra2 upgrade price (or whatever it was), along with 10+ years of significant Z2 free upgrades along the way, especially as I got Zebra1 in a discounted group buy in the first place as well...
During the time, I have been supporting Urs with comments online, creating patches, writing articles about, etc. During this time, I never got (or asked for) anything for free. I always paid for my plug-ins and upgrades as any regular customer, and I have everything from U-he except Satin (which I will probably buy, eventually). I did that because I think Urs is commited to his creations, and he runs his "business" with care and passion, not just "business as usual".
I am entitled to a free upgrade to Zebra 3, so, I really don't care what price the upgrade will be launched. That said, I think Urs should not price the upgrade too high, since that would probably give a bad sign to the community, that has been showing him their support (IMO) mainly because of the way he does his business.
OTOH, I would not have been shocked if he had asked for a fee to users of DIVA when he launched the new modules (the JP-8000 oscillators and the Obie filter) which were very important additions, and enough added value, IMO, to qualify for a v 2.0, or v 1.5 upgrade. Also, I would accept that, if more modules were added (like the oscillators and filters of Synthex, as was discussed in the past), that he would decide to charge for that.

The alpha was(is) an un-optimized research ware. Urs already said the shipping version will be more CPU efficient.Synthman2000 wrote:
