Anyone tried the new free KORE Player yet?

I have downloaded and tried this out today and been very impressed with it. I gave up on Hypersonic a while ago due to endless troubles with the dongle, and depending on what NI do with forthcoming soundpacks, this could become a potential replacement (especially if they brought out something covering a broad GM-like soundset). I like the easy way of browsing to find the type of sound you are looking for, and the way they use the matrix of sound variations is very cool - better in fact than Hypersonic's approach to the same thing (hyperknobs I think they were called).
My only concern is what happens about authorisation. Obviously I can install the basic player on a couple of PCs because it is free, but when I buy a soundpack will I be able to authorise it on more than one PC?
I think there is tremendous potential for this thing, especially if NI are willing to give away regular minor feature updates or new sounds for free, it could work its way into most people's VST collection & therefore drive sales of soundpacks for them. I'd also be interested if they were to release some guitar effects in the form of a KORE soundpack.

I'd be surprised if they aren't already working on one.markheath wrote:I'd also be interested if they were to release some guitar effects in the form of a KORE soundpack.

...hmm, could be Bandstand or a future version of it - It wouldbe perfect to be sold as a Kore SoundPack...markheath wrote:I have downloaded and tried this out today and been very impressed with it. ...usually NI allows you to have two authorisations. However, you're not allowed to use this one software on two different machines at the same time.markheath wrote:My only concern is what happens about authorisation. I've downloaded KorePlayer, installed and activated, but Reaper does not see it. I have tried to run it with SaviHost, without success.
What is wrong ?
Sorry if I am so noob, but so far I have been using only Free VSTi.
Thanks for your help.

Have you added the folder that contains the KORE player VST dll to REAPER's preferences dialog?oscarb75 wrote:I've downloaded KorePlayer, installed and activated, but Reaper does not see it.

I think so. I have all my VST and VSTi in the same folder ( around 100 ). There is also the Kore Player.dll file and Kore Player FX.dll, but Reaper does not see them.markheath wrote:Have you added the folder that contains the KORE player VST dll to REAPER's preferences dialog?oscarb75 wrote:I've downloaded KorePlayer, installed and activated, but Reaper does not see it.

I'm not sure what can be going wrongoscarb75 wrote:I think so. I have all my VST and VSTi in the same folder ( around 100 ). There is also the Kore Player.dll file and Kore Player FX.dll, but Reaper does not see them.
Perhaps try a rescan of the VST folder from the preferences dialog.
Also, are you sure you have not got a filter active on the REAPER fx dialog? That can sometimes catch me out.

Have you run the player in standalone? All NI products should be run in standalone immediately after an install or update, and before you try to use them as a plugin for the first time. Otherwise, odds are the plugin won't initialize.

I have just tried. I uninstalled, re-installed and I always have the same problem. I get an error message concerning an "entry point MiniDumpWriteDump in the dynamic link library dbghelp.dll".ew wrote:Have you run the player in standalone? ....

I have also tried to get a different version of that dll, but the problem is still there.
Thanks to everybody for your help, anyway.

If you're getting that minidump message, it means the player's trying to write a crash log and can't. I'd contact both NI's and Reaper's support teams...oscarb75 wrote:I have just tried. Also, if you don't have it turned on, turn on error reporting in Windows (control panel/system/advanced). At least then you should get a crash log...

The more I mess with Kore free, the more I like it. I think I'll pop for the Massive soundpack.

I checked out KORE Player and found its sounds rather boring. I have great respect for NI and own a few of their products but this freebie didn't impress me. Thanks anyway.

I think that NI has done an amazing job with sound programming and find most everything useful and some presets inspirational. To each, his own.

I think the sounds and sound quality are great, i've just bought the Reaktor and Massive expansions, mostly very good and i plan to buy a few more.
You could spend hours, days and weeks even, just exploring all the sound variations, i just wish you could morph without the mouse...
I've always liked the sound NI gear produces, its a pitty they have now adopted plain-jane looking GUI's, one reason i've never upgraded Absynth beyond 2.
