blaster78 wrote:"not for threes", definately their best release (although not necessarily the most glitchy) - a completely amazing album.meatwalker wrote:im looking at the plaid entry on wikipedia they seem pretty interesting what would u consider their best release?
also try,
lemodie - ochre
chris clark - empty the bones of you
anything by autechre, the most melodic being incunabula and amber
telefon tel aviv - farenheit fair enough
boom bip - circle
murcof - ulyssess
boc - geogaddi
while not being the most glitch albums ever they do mix it very well with more melodic and consistent elements.
for more unusual but still glitchy stuff look four tet (glitchy beats with folky samples, best album being rounds) or mum (like a cross between glitch, sigur ros and bjork)
have fun.
steve.
Murcof mmmmmmmmm I

Luomo?
And yes, I'd second the recommendation for anything on Perlon, Kompakt etc, for a glitched up take on tech-house. Also Fennesz for more ambient stuff, and the Clicks and Cuts compilations on Mille Plateaux at the more stark and minimal end of things. Also, people like Sileni, Martsman and Graphic have lately started doing interesting things with glitches and drum and bass.
Btw, it's interesting the way that people seem to have started using 'glitchy' to mean just 'slightly off kilter electronica' like Plaid or BoC, rather than actual glitch music.
edit Oh, and check out Matmos and their disco wing Soft Pink Truth. Also Bjork's album Vespertine which they did some or all of the production for.

it was more cos he asked for more melodic and consistent stuff as suggestions.DWb wrote: Btw, it's interesting the way that people seem to have started using 'glitchy' to mean just 'slightly off kilter electronica' like Plaid or BoC, rather than actual glitch music.
in my opinion most "real" glitch tends to be slightly atonal and a bit nuts (not that any of that is bad
the off kilter electronica thing offers a more easy listening experience with elements of glitch in an easier to handle framework.

Really?blaster78 wrote: In my opinion most "real" glitch tends to be slightly atonal and a bit nuts (not that any of that is bad)
OPINION : My impression of most glitch, including Autechre, Richard Devine etc. - is that you strip away the sonic textures, most of it is pretty plain rock-techno-folk chord sructures, not a lot of adventure beyond sonic texture, no jazz, no soul, not much funk, not much melodic invention ... I see a lot of attitude amongst these artists (yes i'm generalising!) in that they see themselves as "experimental" just because they've used a bitsize reducer, but now that this stuff is years old and the textures don't "shock" anymore (and can be bought in countless sample libraries), I just hear a lot of semitone doodling and minor chord progressions ...
RECOMMENDATION : Exception would have to be Prefuse 73 , or rather Scott Herren, and particularly in his earlier project Delarosa and Asora, particularly the 1991 album Agony Part 1. Pretty much the masterpiece in the genre IMHO, he goes beyond Oval to weave glitchy sounds, aliasing textures, jazz-like progressions, acoustic instruments, and yes, occasionally beautiful and inventive chord structures and melodies. He seems to regard distortion / aliasing / glitching as just part of an overall texture and instrument bank rather than considering them to be "radical" in any way - i.e sometimes a lo-fi Rhodes is appropriate for one sound, maybe a viola for another etc etc.
Can't find decent excerpts online as all these tracks take a while to kick in, but anyway:

Murcof is a reason to live. Seriously!
Why has no other electronic artist discovered Arvo Part yet?
