If you ordered from Asknet you got an email almost instantly with your serial number etc. Once you have that you register that with Steinberg at your own leisure and all is good. I cannot see how anyone is out of pocket in this process. I suppose if they ordered literally the minute before the plug was pulled maybe it is possible but I am guessing that is a tiny amount of people. And I am 100% it is none of you.
I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

kritikon wrote: Sat Sep 30, 2023 11:41 pm Yeah, have to agree. I understand Steinberg have nothing to do with Asknet's dodgy goings on but anyone who might have put money in for a Steinberg product and lost it to Asknet is going to feel pretty fuckked off with Steinberg if they are washing their hands already.

They're saying "Because Asknet are acting on Steinberg’s behalf, they remain responsible for all queries relating to payment, fulfilment and delivery. To contact Asknet, submit a ticket via their web site or send an email to customerservice@asknet.com" and yet "Our online shop is run on our behalf by a third party, Asknet Solutions AG. Unfortunately, Asknet has entered into self-administered insolvency". So to clarify - go talk to Asknet, who no longer exist. Your $1000 for Cubase pro is not our concern and if you lost it, tough titties mate, you'll have to spend another $1000 to get it at the new shop when it opens...really? :o
If you go buy a product from Amazon, Sweetwater, Guitar Center, Walmart, etc.. And have an issue with your purchase, do you go run to the manufacturer and scream for a refund? No you go to the retailer who you actually gave your money too. You didn't pay a dime to the manufacturer, you paid the store you bought it from, and that's where your complaint lies.

Used to deal with this all the time when I worked the customer service department at work. 'I ordered this monitor from Best Buy and they never sent it.' Uh, so call Best Buy who took your money. Their inventory and fulfillment is not our problem.

Who's paying $1000 for Cubase Pro anyways? Its about half that, and knowing most folks here, you've got one or two other DAW's you can use to cross grade for even cheaper..

Cubase Pro is 579 €, so, that's rather $500 to $600, not $1.000.

How do I get help with an existing order?

If you have an enquiry concerning an existing order you have placed in the Steinberg online shop, you should contact Asknet directly for assistance. Because Asknet are acting on Steinberg’s behalf, they remain responsible for all queries relating to payment, fulfilment and delivery. To contact Asknet, submit a ticket via their web site or send an email to customerservice@asknet.com
lol. "if our web store f**ked you over, that's really not our problem."
Or it could be as easy as Steinberg not having access to Asknet's ordering system.

But, that might not be scandalous enough for some. I understand.
that's fair. i guess i was more commenting on why this company is shutting down (involvement with fraud and scammers), and how they're the ones who have all steinberg customers' bank info. and now they are just disappearing or whatever. it seemed a possible concern, but i'm usually wrong.

$999 vs $579.

I know how much each of them costs, but I thought maybe that person got mixed up and was quoting that higher price which is closer to Nuendo than Cubase.

Ok.. I think they were doing it for exaggeration, but only that person really knows.

Steinberg unwittingly in bed with credit card scammers. Nice.

Did you actually read the story? Obviously not. They are not the scammers. Some of their employees, who are not in the company anymore obviously provided assistance to scammers using their payment service.

But, sure, all the same, if it fits you. How's your CLAP database doing?

The FTC’s complaint against Nexway (and several of its subsidiaries and an associated company known as Asknet), its CEO Victor Iezuitov, and its chief strategy officer Casey Potenzone charges that the defendants were at the center of several offshore tech support scams, processing tens of millions of dollars in charges and giving the scammers access to the US credit card network.

It says exactly what I wrote...
giving the scammers access to the US credit card network
"Giving scammers access". Not "scamming".

This article also states that "employees" have been involved, no word about CEOs. But, I don't know which source is correct in that regard.
Nexway has been in touch to comment: "To date, Nexway company have moved on from the FTC complaint allegations and has already cooperated with the FTC in reaching today's resolution. The Nexway employees responsible for the conduct described in the FTC complaint are no longer with the company.

Let's not drift away from the actual problem too much though, which is the bad situation for Steinberg (especially for them), and the customers who can't order their products, at least when they buy directly from Steinberg (of course, everyone can also buy more inexpensively from retailers).

Steinberg is one of the most difficult developers I've ever dealt with. All I wanted to do was upgrade Padshop Pro to the latest, yet there is absolutely no path I can find to do this, and several emails to support have gone unanswered. I'm literally trying to give them money and they seem uninterested in it. I have a free Cubase LE license, but I've honestly never bothered installing or registering it because all my dealings with them are so frustrating.
