I tried this version on my HiFi via the Audioengine, and didn't notice it. Then I tried it on my monitors (a 2-year old pair of Rokit 5s which have replaced a 13-year old pair of equivalent Rokits) and couldn't hear it on those either. I doubt whether it was the monitor replacement which facilitated the improvement. I think that you have remixed this. Sounds great.

Good work :)
Hi Tim,
Yeah, this was originally God knows when...10 years ago?

Very slight remix - this sampled choir does have resonance issues in the men's voices and I missed it first time around...it's not much, but it's irritating once you notice it! I had to do something. :D :D :D

If your Rokits gave it a positive spin, then I'm happy!

Thanks for that - very useful!

"Crucifixus" is kind of a miniature Bach piece. Pretty effective although it occasionally crosses into the uncanny valley where the choir performing religious music turns out to be robots with a limited sample library. It works very well given the limitations of choral libraries. :tu:
Hi Frantz, thanks for having a listen...your feedback is always appreciated.

YL - yes, I agree that I've left plenty of space to breathe in that one...sometimes I forget about that aspect! :D

Sampled choir / real choir - dodgy subject that angers far too many people in the classical world! (Though I do understand their concerns).

For me, it's a piece written for a choral sample library (with all its strengths and weaknesses) and NOT for real choir - simple! Yes, It could also be arranged for a real group, but with a few necessary little tweaks!

Stylistically - not sure I totally agree with the ''Bach'' comparison? Maybe more Renaissance-esque (new word?) with a few modern touches? Truth is, I've never actually thought about it at all, so you might be right...I'm gonna listen analytically now and decide!   :help: :help: :help:

Thank you for the review! Now your song "Ysabel's Lament": assuming it is software: it sounds very realistic! I am more of a rocker, but this is really moving. Very well done!
Hi Aaron,
Thanks for having a listen - glad you enjoyed it and found it ''moving''.

ChameleonMusic wrote: Sat Sep 06, 2025 10:58 am Released on 27th August 2025, ''Silence and Tears: 17 Short Stories'' is an album of duets, trios, mixed ensembles, choirs and electronics; all combining to create melody-driven miniatures that (hopefully) take the listener through a wide range of atmospheres and emotions.

Here's a couple of tracks from the album if you get the chance to have a quick listen:

Ysabels Lament:
Absolutely beautiful piece. Maybe my aging ears are failing, but I thought the cello was perfectly executed. Sounded like a skilled professional. The piano sounded great, but the cello really drew me in. Simple, but compelling melody that stayed with me long after it was over.

Crucifixus:
Haunting choir that sounds very realistic. I could hear the dynamics, that is, subtle volume changes that created, to my untrained ears, some tension and release.

Listen to me. I’m trying to sound like a serious music critic. In truth, I’m just some clown with an iPad. 30 years ago, I was a pretty damn good musician. Life got in the way, and here I am. I’m going to go back and listen to Ysabel again. Really like that.

That's good to hear - the cello is meant to lead it all with a tune that 'sticks'!

Very delicate and melodic, nicely mixed.
Would make a great soundtrack...

Wow, such incredible detail and expressiveness. Almost a weeping/vocal like quality to the solo cello.

Thanks for sharing!

Having a second listen to some of the tracks today. I really like "Dream Within a Dream." The stereo field use is great.
When the data is corrupt in the Desert of the Real, Beyond the Last Thought, where intuition reigns, is the solace that will embolden and strengthen the soul, giving hope once more to this age of failing technique. eassae.com

''Dream within a Dream'' - one of a number of more minimalist tracks I created a few years ago - all based around just one musical idea / motif...

With such tracks, the 'music tech' / FX play a much more central role at times with me...

Stereo field in this one is directly linked to the automated delay effect that ebbs and flows throughout.

Glad you liked it...I've always had a soft spot for that one!

Some beautiful, and emotional compositions.
The spiritual nature of the subject matter adds a deeper level of meaning.
1st song, ...lament, a good compliment of piano and emotional cello.
Cruxifixus - the dissonance is mixed in well. The beauty that resulted from that moment, but the pain suffered in the event itself.
