What hosts is Shortcircuit 2 (v0.5.0) known to crash on, and work? They've crashed on Cantabile and VST/SAVIHost for me.

That version is working fine in Cantabile, here. (Maybe I should give the version of Cantabile, too: Version 1.2.0.1257.) No crashes at all.

I just figured it out. It appears to work until I press PATCH on the browser on the right, then I need to reset my computer in order for it to work again.
I don't know what the issue is, but I assume it has to do with something... (at the moment nothing is configured to that folder, though I've tried in the past, it's like...nup.)
EDIT: It appears it only does this on initial stages. It seems to have fixed itself, though I wouldn't count on it. It happens when it's still writing database and such.
EDIT2: It's done it again, on database deletion/refresh upon reload of the plugin.
Can it load SC1 multi/groups?

It is a really useful and well done work.
I will try to start a comparison between what can/can't be done with each version, if it can help.
I could have some presentation suggestion, if you're after it :
- make the main title bigger
- maybe we could use the SC2 color scheme : main title blue, title#2 green and smaller title (level 3) red ? Just a 2 cent idea but if the document has to grow, it could help finding quicker the info the user might need ?
- As i like to print PDF (i quite hate to read on the screen), is it possible too to add the pagination number ?
(I hope my suggestions are helpful)
thanks again

Nice starter-guide Jake!
We could put this kind of stuff on the vember wiki, feel free to send me a mail/PM if you want a user account.

I'd like to make a notion that the current version of Shortcircuit 2 does work with .GIG files, most likely older version or small ones which is all I have, which are:
Radioactive Choir.gig (2 patches)
ReChoir.gig (4 patches)
At least, other than that problem I've had when SC2 is databasing from scratch, I haven't had a problem with what Jake has stated in his PDF.

Thanks for the info marce, I will have a look at the actual SFZ file and see if I can spot any errors in theremarce wrote:Chicken Sys Translator doesnt do a good job translating to SFZ. I translated several files, and translates values like 0.250 to 5,9998AE or so. If you open the sfz files from chicken sys with SFZed, these values are in red (out of range, and with the "," instead of the dot)Caco wrote:
I did some testing though and it plays back soundfonts fine and I downloaded a couple of SFZs and they play fine so it appears SC1 has problems playing back SFZs created with Chicken Systems Translator and Highlife. Has anybody else found this?
Additionaly, i have opened some Highlife sfz maps, with SFZed, and whitout change nothing, re-save them, and Highlife refused to open them properly.
So, im concluding, that SFZ files are properly read only by SFZ-VSTi. SC is less problematic than Highlife reading them, but like i noted above, advanced programming of SFZ files is simply ignored (keyswitching, randomess parameters, etc)

Ive just figured out how to load samples into SC2 when your using Linux. In the ¨config¨ section press the option for loading the separate window. You can drag and drop the samples your using onto a key in the keyboard.
The ¨power is at the sample level¨ design of SC2 seems to be a similar to the A3000 http://www.synthman.com/yamaha/
This might give some tips in the meantime.

does anyone has any clues ?

Looping kicks ass in SC2. If you change the ¨hi¨ key in the ¨names and ranges¨ the loop will split to the keys covered. Had a bit of a ¨why the hell hasn't anyone done this before?¨ moment when playing with this. If you drag the keyrange beyond the keys needed for the loop it loops back on itself! So trying to come close to the sonic lunacy of Amon Tobin, Autechre or Aphex Twin has just become alot easier for me

Yes, of course.
0 is a linear function, - values change it progressively (with increasing value) to a concave curve , + values to a convex curve
edit: that goes for attack - for decay and release it's the other way around.

Have you looked at the formulae in the modulation? This thing is a MONSTER

1. Can other people weigh in here? (Claes?) Does SC2 support Giga? I only tried 2-3 times, and all of the files were large piano files. None loaded. Is support based on the size or complexity of the instruments? On the version of Giga they were created in? More generally, is there a list of which formats absolutely do and don't load?MaliceX wrote:I'd like to make a notion that the current version of Shortcircuit 2 does work with .GIG files, most likely older version or small ones which is all I have...
At least, other than that problem I've had when SC2 is databasing from scratch, I haven't had a problem with what Jake has stated in his PDF.
2. I'm working on two more sections of the "manual" that cover more details on creating and editing a multisample (the Sel layer button,right-clicking on samples, etc. and the organization of instruments: zones\layers\parts, etc and when to work where.) Can other people take on bits and pieces of things? If you could just cover a single box on the Zones page or the Part or FX page, we could build this fairly fast. Maybe a screen-shot of the box followed by a table that explains the use of each parameter? Two hours of work for some boxes? Many hands making small work and all of that.
(And I'm sure I'll be asking several questions about the Mod Matrix, particularly the math section at the far right. I've read the section in the wiki, but there's deep water there. for me, least. Help requested in advance.)
3. There are some things I just can't do, such as using it for drums. I understand that this subject would be larger than taking on a box or two on the Zones page. But I just don't have experience with Battery, etc, so I don't know how things should be configured. More help needed, in other words.
4. Page numbers? Can't believe I left them off. Of course, of course. Once more of this is pulled together, I want to create a good index, too, and ideally a reference section that includes tables briefly explaining all of the parameters on each screen, so people just wondering what something does could avoid skimming through the text.
I'll complete these next two sections in the next 2-3 days.
