FX always ruin a synth emulation because it makes patch designers lazy.

Do you buy a OB-Xa emulation to sound like an OB-Xa, or to sound like every synth under the sun? I never understand why a virtual synth emulation is expected to do everything. I don't look to a Minimoog emulation for pads and do not want to see a factory bank cluttered with them. There are plenty other synths for those sounds.

Putting FX into permanent bypass is the first thing I do, but then the patches were not designed that way.

With a polysynth plugin like OBsession (which could use up to 16 voices) it might be wrong to be only be obsessed (pun intended...) with the Bass sounds while it could do so much more. On the other hand i agree that it could do some really great Bass sounds and i had done some nice ones myself ...

The few FXs included in OBsession actually sound really good IMHO and for some of my patches they are an importabnt part of the sound design.
With certain patches deactivating the FXs would kind of "destroy" them while with others this would not really be an issue.

When doing patches with OBsession i did no do it like "Oh, am i allowed to use this feature if it is not included in a real OB-Xa?". I simply used what is available if it fits to the sound i wanted to get.
Of course i also did patches with a smaller feature set and with no FXs or only a small amount of FXs. Again depends on what sound i intended to get and/or how it sounded best for my own taste.

What's nice with The Legend is you can now (as of the 1.31 update) lock the state of the global FX toggle. So if you want Global FX off, just load up a preset, turn global fx off, lock it, save it as default in your DAW, and you'll never hear effects. This way they're an option for sound designers, and if you never want them, you never have to hear them. Can't get better than that.
