Thanks!

Did you ask chatgpt how to do it? ;)

Just kidding. The AI looks great.

Cheers.
Mike.

you should be able to do a static build with cmake.. I forget the flags though.. I could look it up..

Hi Mike,

actually I did! :)

Update: the Windows build works perfectly, both the standalone and the plug-in.

Thanks!
Attila

The problem with libcurl is that is depends on several other libraries that are also not easy to build, like openssl. But now I managed to set up everything on windows. Now comes macOS.

Those are old versions. Since then v5.0 was released, the latest update is v5.0.7.

There is no beta version at the moment, but I hope to upload the next beta in 2-3 days.

Hi Attila

With the AI generator and for all other generators, maybe you can add a way to lock bars or quarters that it is not generate new. so can keep if like bar 1 and try others for only bar 2. this can also go to quarters. maybe in display for generator the quarter lines that can see. can be click so it lock this part and are not change. this is for all notes that are inside this quarter start

also a master out vst slot is also very usefull to use limiter or mastering effect or eq for speaker correction in standalone version

Yes, I know that, but, there is a way to do it with cmake so that it is recursive.. anyways.. glad you got it.. lol, I never did look into it..

Hi magicmusic,

I definitely want to add flexible audio routing in a (not so distant) future version.

At the moment AI suggestions are provided for phrases, however I can imagine integrating AI suggestions in the Phrase Editor, where you could lock 'good' notes.

Thanks,
Attila

RapidComposer v5.1b1 is available!

This update includes AI suggestions. Feel free to send feedback about it. Some instructions:

API key

As part of this beta testing phase, you will have access to features powered by OpenAI's services. To facilitate this, I am providing a shared OpenAI API key, which is a critical component for accessing these features. I kindly ask for your cooperation in using this API key responsibly.

AI Settings

You'll find the settings under Settings / Miscellaneous / AI Functions, but some settings can be changed by right clicking on the "AI" button on the main workspace.

Model selection (detailed info here):

- gpt-3.5-turbo: very low cost and very fast. Great for general music theory questions and suggesting chord progressions. For phrases it is better to use gpt-4-turbo or gpt4
- gpt-4-1106-preview (aka gpt-4-turbo): a bit slower than gpt-3.5, great for creating phrases
- gpt-4: the slowest and most expensive and most capable model, great for creating phrases

AFAIK new OpenAI registrations receive $5 of free tokens which is a lot. If you have registered before (e.g. for ChatGPT) make sure you use another phone number and e-mail address for a new registration.

Implementation notes

I originally planned AI suggestions to spread out everywhere in the program but at the moment they are in a single menu accessed by the new AI button above the composition workspace.

There are custom prompts optimized for certain tasks and a chat window where you can ask follow-ups or new requests. Keep in mind that AI chat has no memory, so if you ask a follow-up question, all previous questions and replies are sent to the server (=bigger cost).

Only the complete reply is displayed in the chat window, not word by word like in a browser when using ChatGPT. Sometimes you have to wait 10-20 seconds for a reply.

RapidComposer requests the scale/chord/progression/phrase suggestions using a certain formatting so that it is able to interpret the reply. This is transparent to the user. Don't change or override the formatting e.g. by specifying JSON or ABC notation because that won't work.

I am sure you will have many suggestions. Maybe you expect more from this, like typing "create the next hit song" but let's take smaller steps. If you have any ideas that could be added, or prompts that you'd like to include in the program, let me know.

Thanks for developing this Attila. As you say, early steps but also a great leap as this would have been unimaginable a few years ago. :tu: :tu: :tu:

All the best.

I also notice that the V5 did not show play cursor when play with the button the generator. The v4 have this feature and it is very important

You can use the beta version without registration.
This is not the same as ChatGPT but using the OpenAI API.
For the OpenAI API access you pay for your actual use (no monthly fee). If you add $5 credit to your account that will be enough for
- more than 125000 words for GPT-4 Turbo
- more than 62500 words for GPT-4
- more than 1875000 words for GPT3-Turbo (see pricing, 'tokens' converted to 'words')
which means probably 2-3 months of active usage for the price of a Starbucks coffee...

At the moment GPT-4 is the most advanced model. I'll examine locally installable models at a later time, but they are not as usable as GPT-4.

Have you checked out BluGenes latest video on Rhythm Lab? It offers some useful tips, but there are aspects with rhythm Lab that are missing , making it a bit challenging to fully grasp rhythm. I've suggested some basic improvements to make it more user-friendly, and I'm eager to see those changes implemented.

One crucial aspect of rhythm is what I call "happy accidents." It would be beneficial if Rhythm Lab provided more options for shaping your rhythm. Imagine being able to input a music file you like and generate new rhythms from it. This feature could be a game-changer when you're stuck or seeking inspiration.

It would also be great to have control over fundamental elements in the rhythm, such as the number of notes, gaps, and rests. Additionally, having the option to import a melody and generate different rhythm variations without losing the original notes would be fantastic. These details matter in music creation, and having control would boost creativity.

Concerns about sharing personal information, such as a phone number, are understandable. One solution is to use a new pay-as-you-go SIM card for added privacy (consider a £1 SIM card).

Once updates, including new features, are added to this rhythm tool, I'd be thrilled to demonstrate how it works. Rhythm is a significant inspiration for me in making music, and it's a crucial component that could elevate Rhythm Lab even further.

Here's a rough look of a mock-up of what I believe is missing and what would be very helpful
