I had to switch between GeoBlend and SpectroBlend a few times before i could hear anything, but after that i could browse thru all the wavetables and load new ones without any problems.

Good to know. I just browsed through them with no audible variation and deleted.mkastrup wrote:I had to switch between GeoBlend and SpectroBlend a few times before i could hear anything, but after that i could browse thru all the wavetables and load new ones without any problems.

There's a bug in oscillator preset loading in that it doesn't overwrite whatever sound was in that slot when you load it. So if you're on slot 1 (a saw, for instance) and you load a new set of waves, you'll still hear the saw. The rest of the table will load and if you switch between oscillator types, slot 1 will then play whatever you've loaded into it, too. Weirdly enough, this problem seems to be cumulative. e.g.
load a fresh set of tables, start in slot 1 which plays wave A
load another set. slot 1 will still play A. Move to slot 2 which plays wave B
load another set. Slot 2 will still play B. But slot 1 also still plays A. And so on. I didn't look to see how far this goes, though
btw, I'm going to build the actual wavetables (these are just the individual waves) later today and I'll send them to Urs as well.
p.s. regarding crashing - this was definitely a bug in earlier versions (it's the bug I was referring to in my original post), but beta5 should have fixed it...

Will try the last AU beta posted somewhere from Urs in the forum.suthnear wrote: p.s. regarding crashing - this was definitely a bug in earlier versions (it's the bug I was referring to in my original post), but beta5 should have fixed it...
..just found..but Urs, my curiosity, there isn't a beta also for the vst osx version?

Yeah, with the last AU (2.2b1) no crashes comes out, but still remain the preset loading bug: i must to click over the geoblend waveform to obtain a sound output/change of sound...as above described by suthnear.

I must confess, I do VST for OSX as last thing... I don't get much feedback there and because it's 3 Universal Binary plugins (as opposed to 1 Zebra2.component for AU), the upload is always somewhat 30 MB...raikard233 wrote:Will try the last AU beta posted somewhere from Urs in the forum.

Any volunteers for Mac VST?

I'm already using the AU version on abe live, but i can't assure a daily test: september is coming-->also uni exams are coming!Urs wrote:Any volunteers for Mac VST?
(..but this new set of oscs are inspiring me, i'm spending this morning to do some patches at the end...
Here's a simple audio sample using a preset done with one of the Suthnear OSC:

Tried again this morning. No crashes so far (last night's crashes did more than just make Tracktion2 quit - the PC would only restart by holding down the power button after Tracktion2 went "poof"). But no luck getting the waves to load in. The other oscillator presets (i.e. Transmission osc presets) load just fine and work as they should, but if I try to click on one of the XT/VS oscillator presets in the list, the mouse click doesn't even highlight it and nothing happens.
Hopefully I did the beta5 install correctly - you just un-check the presets during install so it only replaces the .dll in the vstplugins folder and that's it, right?

Ok, I've now sent Urs the xt's first 27 wavetables. If this seems confusing (since Urs already posted a set of waves) it's because there are two concepts of wave at work here. The ppg and the microwaves each have a rom bank of single cycle oscillator shapes. However, you cannot directly address these waves. Rather, access is purely through wavetables. A wavetable is just a set of indexes into the rom waves - it groups the rom waves together so that modulating through them produces a certain effect. It's the wavetables that will give you a sense of what the microwaves actually sound like. Anyway, just load one up and sweep the wave knob back and forth for instant teutonic digital pleasure.
for the purists out there, some of the wavetables made the transition better than others. Z2's interpolation routine sounds more sophisticated to my ears, but with the ppg/microwaves the harsh nature of the interpolation between waves was often the charm (particularly so with the ppg). The shorter table size also means that transitions have less time to develop. The absence of the xt's oscillator mangling facilities* means that you're not going to be able to exactly duplicate what an xt can do anyway. otoh, none of the wavetable synths I've used can do half of what z2 can do. It's easy to forget when comparing a softsynth with a venerable classic that the comparison should be made in the other direction, too.
* It's ironic, but the best of these - time quantise and overflow - exist purely to recreate the (highly desirable) digital grunge of the microwave 1

Here they are as full oscillator settings:

These shall work in any version of Zebra2 - and in Zebralette, of course.
Thanks suthnear!
