November 15th news from Aodyo on Kickstarter and Indiegogo:
Dear backers,

We would like to share fresh news on Anyma Omega work-in progress:

- We are currently finalizing all front panel boards design. Here are views of both keyboard and desktop boards organization:

- We also improved the advanced ribbon tuning and playing modes. It goes beyond our expectations! We shot a short video to illustrate its features:

https://invidious.fdn.fr/watch?v=4pkUOP2toPU

We have made considerable advancements, yet it's important to acknowledge that we initially underestimated the time required to develop instruments with such specifications. Our team is working hard to fulfill this objective. It appears that we won’t be able to launch production before the end of this year. We will provide you with updates regarding our revised production timeline.
Additionally, more information was provided within a response towards another backer:
Quim Gil (Backer) wrote: Looks and sounds great! Will this ribbon be able to send MIDI/MPE data out as well? I’m reserving a place for the Omega Desktop next to an Osmose, and this ribbon next to the Haken Audio engine could… :)
Aodyo Instruments (Project Owner) wrote: ➦Quim Gil Such thing is on the roadmap.
The Anyma Omega Desktop Summer EA batch is now fully claimed. Quantity of units in each perk are now:
  • Anyma Omega Desktop Autumn EA - 0 out of 5
  • Anyma Omega Keyboard Spring EA - 5 out of 10

  • Advanced work on various electronic boards.
  • Integrated a portion of the DSP modules into the Anyma Phi.
938c0e096495e218034366d97fc5c030_original.jpeg

Q4 Achievements:
  • Made the mainboard test unit available.
  • Designed and tested front panel boards and the UI board.
  • Finalized and tested the ribbon board and touchpad
  • Made progress on the Fatar PolyAT keyboard.
  • Ported Anyma Phi synth core code onto the new DSP units and evaluated their performances.

Core Performance Tests:
To reach 16 voices, we encountered a shortfall in our initial architecture, which was designed to manage 4 voices of polyphony per core, plus 1 core dedicated to voice mixing and reverb. Our September 2023 tests on the intended architecture revealed they could barely manage 3 voices of polyphony each. However, an alternative solution tested later achieved up to 5 voices per core (with a limit of 4 voices potentially exceeding 100% CPU usage of the Anyma Phi - up to 125%).This led to a decision to switch to this alternative solution, necessitating a redesign of the DSP board and further adaptation of the code. This pivotal decision, made very recently, will unfortunately delay Omega production by an additional minimum of six months.

Addressing Early Challenges:
The first half of the year was marked by considerable uncertainty regarding component availability, prompting us to take risks like ordering components before validating prototypes. However, clarity has improved since then, though not as straightforward as in the pre-Covid era. We initially focused on integrating stretch goals' impacts on Omega, leading to the development of user interface boards and a core Omega board, which revealed performance shortcomings. Exploring additional cores introduced complexity and cost issues, whereas the alternative DSP solution proved more efficient with manageable extra costs.

We understand the delays may be disappointing, but please rest assured we are fully committed to delivering a product that meets our high standards and your expectations. We appreciate your patience and support as we navigate these challenges and will continue to keep you updated on our progress.

Warm regards,
The Aodyo Team
Quantity of units in each perk are now:
  • Anyma Omega Desktop Autumn EA - 1 out of 5
  • Anyma Omega Keyboard Summer EA - 2 out of 5
The current Autumn batch should be EA2.

April 23rd news from Aodyo Instruments on Kickstarter and Indiegogo:
As you surely have noticed with the Loom campaign, we've made significant progress on the ribbon!

Both products share a great deal of code, electronics and design ideas, so a large part of what you've already seen during the Loom campaign will also be (and likely already is) on the Omega, whenever it makes sense to have it. As we absolutely don't want to risk further delays on the project, we are trying to strike the right balance between functionality and integration, so please don't expect new bars and sliders to pop up on the sides of your Anyma ;).

Here are some illustrations of a few playing modes that allow you to use the ribbon to play notes and control parameters of your Omega.

With all the possibilities we showed in the Loom campaign, this makes the Omega Desktop an even greater option as a standalone machine! You will be able to configure how the ribbon works directly from your Omega, and it will function at full resolution and rate, without any limitation due to MIDI.

The end of this campaign has allowed us to resume our work on the ribbon, as well as the polyphonic aftertouch keyboard, which should be the topic of our next news item.

I wouldnt have expected an update on that front now anyway, given it was only February when they mentioned a new delay of at least 6 months.

2 months after that announcement, I would like to know if the 6 months is on track... or is it a year.

They probably dont know yet, and part of the reason for saying 6 months in the first place could have been to buy themselves time to get close enough to find out with more confidence.

They had a major, non-trivial issue that required a rethink. Whether there will be other, not correctly anticipated knock on consequences of that to come remains to be seen. So personally I couldnt be reassured by what they say next if its just filler, the thing that matters is actually hitting significant milestones in the reformulated plan. When they had nothing to say about that in the last update I'll just assume that they simply dont have that sort of positive news to share yet.

You are welcome to be fine with no update in their update.

I however, do want an update on their progress on the issue when they send out an email. That's why I read the email. If their answer is that they are still investigating and don't yet have an updated timeline, that's fine, but I want to hear it.

May 28th news from Aodyo Instruments on Kickstarter:
Last month we shared a few details on the ribbon of the Anyma Omega, based on the progress we made for our new Loom controller, which is currently entering the production stage. Since then, we've also been working on the rest of the controllers in the Omega, and more specifically on the keybed.

First, a little reminder. The keyboard in the Anyma Omega is made by Fatar and features semi-weighted keys with velocity sensitivity and polyphonic aftertouch. This month, we finalized the firmware that manages this part, which you can see in action here:

https://invidious.franklyflawless.org/w ... JJbfz2gr-4

We've been very careful to make the most of the sensors provided by the hardware to offer the best accuracy, precision and reliability possible. While you will be able to output pretty standard MIDI, the Omega's internal synth will be able to benefit from full-resolution and full-rate velocity and poly aftertouch data for your patches.

We are now attending to the expressive touchpad before heading back towards the display and editing parts of the Omega.

Stay tuned for more updates in June!

June 21st news from Aodyo Instruments on Kickstarter and Indiegogo:
Summer has officially started and this marks another milestone for the Omega's controllers.

The last piece was the expressive touchpad, which is located to the left of the keyboard and provides a 3D multitouch surface that can be mapped to any patch parameter.
In fact, it's a bit more than 3D, because it inherits some of the superpowers found in the ribbon and the Loom controller: in addition to sensing the horizontal (X) and vertical (Y) position and contact surface area (Z) of your fingers, it also determines their impact force when they meet the surface.
The following demo video showcases some uses of the touchpad when controlling Ableton Live devices:

https://invidious.franklyflawless.org/w ... V4uOGqvN6A

Aside from MIDI control, the touchpad runs at full resolution and rate when used together with the internal synth, and it also doubles as percussive audio input, like what we did for the Anyma Phi. Combining the audio and control signals gives you a tremendous amount of power for physical model oriented patches!

We are also laying the groundwork of the display and editing parts of the Omega software and firmware, and we expect to be able to tell you more about it next time.

July 23rd news from Aodyo Instruments on Kickstarter and Indiegogo:
Summer is in full swing and we have some news to share about the project!

In the last update, we mentioned that we would be focusing on the software/firmware foundations supporting GUI and patch edition. Meanwhile, we kept noticing bugs in the synthesis engine, particularly regarding voice management and MIDI/MPE handling. Doing this right proved to be more complex than anticipated, given the variety of controllers out there that users might want to connect to their Omega Desktop.

Thus, we decided to prioritize this topic first. We concluded that the best course of action would be to create a playground for stress-testing this code in the form of a virtual instrument that anyone could use with their own setup: Anyma V.

Creating a virtual instrument was always on our minds since Anyma Phi. We had some preliminary code and prototypes lying around, so we knew it wouldn't be too time-consuming to integrate the Omega synth engine, limit it to a single part, and package the whole thing together. Several reasons compelled us to pull the trigger:
- It would significantly help us to track bugs related to synth engine management internally (and it already has).
- We could benefit from ongoing user reports to strengthen the Omega engine, make it rock-solid, and broaden its compatibility.
- This would also bring another MPE virtual instrument option for Loom users (as well as Sylphyo users, in "mono mode").
- Campaign backers (you!) would be able to get familiar with the synth engine and start creating and sharing patches right now while we continue working towards delivering their Omega.

Here is a video showing Léo playing the Anyma V standalone application using the Omega keyboard as a controller:

https://invidious.fdn.fr/watch?v=jvHASVAGvhY

In summary, Anyma V can be thought of as the Anyma Phi editor tied to a polyphonic but monotimbral Anyma synth engine. It runs as a standalone application, as well as an AU and VST3 plugin, on Windows, macOS and Linux. It is available right now, and we have included a license for every Anyma Omega pledge. You will receive an email with the instructions to get your license and copy of the software.

And now, we'll get back to the Omega's next step: the joyful world of low-level display drivers and GUI events.
