Can anyone verify if Sequential has implemented more than just polyaftertouch?

I've had conversations with Chris at Sequential, who is coding the update, and he thinks the MPE implementation should work pretty well. However, I haven't been able to test it with LinnStrument and a Sequential keyboard. If anyone has both and can report here how well it works, please do. Then I'd add it to the Recommended Sound page MPE listing.

These are someone else's initial findings, taken from the Sequential/DSI OB-6 forum:

Current issues with beta OS 1.6.4:
  • Pitch bend range seems to be stuck on just under 1 semitone, regardless of panel setting.
  • Sending CC to osc 2 level or PW results in non-polyphonic behaviour:
i.e. all voices respond to a single voice's CC
  • Grittiness to the sound when CCs are flowing; some CCs worse than others:
    i.e. y-axis --> osc 1 PW
The grittiness sounds like anti-aliasing of the CC data which needs smoothing/filtering, though I guess it could be the digital hardware maxing out under unprecedented demands. Hopefully it's aliasing.

Another thing - I know the osc frequency controls are quantised to semitones on the panel. This quantisation is also present when controlling osc freq via CC. It would be nice, if possible, to have the option of smooth sweeping of osc frequency.

The above person is using a LinnStrument. Of course, I can't speak to whether or not any of this is correct, but I thought it might at least spur a constructive conversation.

---

Here's another account from a different person, using a Seaboard with the P-6:

Poly pitch bend is not working as expected on my two P6 Desktops.

It seems to offset by a factor of 16.

Again, obviously, I can't speak to the accuracy of any of this.

Cheers!

Thanks, John. I'll wait to add it to MPE listing until it's working more smoothly.

Tell Chris to send me an OB-6. I'll test the hell out of it. 8)

Cheers!

Not sure about the other issues, but I’m not having the pitch bend issue described above. I’ll try to test the others tomorrow.

Roger, I see you've listed UDO's Super 6 on your web site as MPE-capable, but just to let you know: it's not yet. I have one, which I got expressly for MPE purposes, but despite its dedicated MPE button, MPE is only promised for the first half of 2021.

Thanks, Jimmy. I've updated the listing to state that MPE isn't currently implemented in software but that UDO estimates implementation within the first half of 2021.

Mpe works great with my OB6, great update !
Regarding polyphonic aftertouch. I find it really hard to play with aftertouch and the OB6. Aftertouch reacts with the slightest touch. Wish I could alter the sensitivity of the aftertouch.

In my opinion it works great with my OB6.
The bend-range is set by pushing “bank select” and “globals” simultaneously and setting the numbers under 1 and 2.

Btw, the main branch of Dexed has the MPE support included since some time. Thanks to the Surge team. Could be listed now...

I just got a PreSonus mixer, and now I see that their included software supports MPE:

I've added Studio One to the Recommended Sounds page, but stated that it only works with MPE plug-in instruments that are in the older VST2 format.
