Pushed out a few more fixes, I hope I don't regret doing a release on a Friday afternoon.

Code: Select all

    new:
      - Added setting to disable hardware graphics acceleration [Windows].
      - Added setting to reduce amount of user interface animations.

    changes:
      - Disabled automatic generation of missing preset previews on startup. Right click on a folder to generate missing previews.
      - Revert subsonic filter to be the same as the one used in Nexus 4.
      - Report main LFO speed in Hz.

    fixes:
      - Sample Editor: Made detecting root note from sample filename more robust.
      - Sample Editor: When importing, get loop points from wav/aiff metadata.
      - Fixed timestretch generator ignoring phase settings.
      - Rename OSC mode destinations from 1 - 4 to A - D to match names of operators.
      - Fix mouse cursor disappearing in Logic after dragging knob.
      - Fixed Cubase converting save state from VS2 to VST3.

Bought it, it sounds good. But I've been installing the packs that come with it in the reFX Cloud app and a lot of the presets from those packs give an error saying "A file is missing.....". Is this happening to anyone else? Lots of missing files from the free packs so far, I haven't gotten to the factory pack so I'm hoping it's not the same with that. I tried "verifying" the installed packs from the app but that didn't do anything to fix the issue. Is anyone else seeing missing files for some presets and does anyone know a way to resolve that? Thanks.

I've not had any issues with a fresh minimal install other than a few of the factory presets require ROM Extension 2 to be installed (in addition to ROM Extension 1). If you're having issues with presets it's likely because you haven't installed required factory content which includes needed samples.

No I didn't install the factory content yet, there are no instructions as to what steps to follow with the installation. There's an outdated video on the cloud app download page that tells you pretty much nothing. So apparently the other sound packs need the factory pack installed first, good to know but that was never explained anywhere.

The reFX Cloud app is pretty basic. Close your DAW. Open the reFX Cloud app make sure you check the gear icon bottom and that your library and user data is listed correctly. If you have automatic update turned off update Nexus 5 to current version 5.1.5. Next make sure you install “required content n4” and the ROM extensions packs (I have listed ROM extension , then ROM extension 2-4) think these may be required but not sure.

I have no issues, just re validated. I have 45 packs (this includes free, paid for and older avent packs) listed in reFX Cloud and have no issues with reFX Cloud, downloading the packs. Next open DAW make sure the Nexus 5 is running and check packs and sounds. It’s very basic and it’s currently running as it should as I write this. Just updated and got 5.1.5 update and working fine here. Maybe you had a glitch in downloads, maybe your internet, DAW, OS etc. you haven’t listed what system your on MaxOS or Win, what DAW etc. The reFX Cloud is working here for me in MacOS Sonoma and Logic 11.1.

Nexus5 seems to be a nice sampler / little synth plugin. However Avenger seems to be eons more capable, like FM, saturation per voice, more filters, much more synthesis types. I wonder if the programming team is the same or different? Nexus5 seems to run smoothly on any cpu, but Avenger has some serious performances issues still or let's say sadly, since it deserves better...

Both synths come with outstanding, mindblowing presets for sure, but I guess Nexus is more famous than Avenger, so more artists did already presets here. But really, Nexus5 seems to me more like a sophisticated sample layer engine, similar to Falcon. At the same time Falcon though supports MPE, fx per voice. The Nexus5 fx seem to be outstanding, at the same level as Avenger.

I really wonder why you guys aren't doing standalone fx plugins of Avenger and nexus5, I remember something this is not possible due to licensing issues? What a pity, this would be a best seller in my opinion and also a good addition to the synths (ding proper mixing within the DAW).

I did the minimal install option and the banks selected automatically for install were: Required N4 Content, N5 Factory Presets, ROM Extension, and Dance 2. I still encountered a few presets after this which required ROM Extension 2 (reFX oversight). This should be the minimal install to avoid any missing file issues — as all other Extensions must come with their own additional samples.

This is really good info and reFX should document it somewhere.

ReFX thank you for the Christmas 2024 expansion freebie. Very nice.

I bought Nexus 5 earlier today and have been going through it this afternoon. I had purchased the OG Nexus the day of release and had built up a pretty good selection of expansions, but then sold it years ago when I went back to a primarily hardware workflow. For some reason that I can’t recall, about a half dozen of my expansions didn’t transfer/weren’t transferable, so it was great to see that they were still in my account and work perfectly with Nexus 5. It’s a great synth and just in time to win Software Synth of the Year 2024!

They are completely separate. I had never met Manuel until he came to Canada this fall to shoot the video. I don't even know who the developers on Avenger are. I think some of the FX are the same between Avenger and Nexus because they were licensed from the same source.

Are there specific FX you would want as individual plugins? Or all the FX in a multifx/rack style plugin?

I have talked about it in the VPS Avenger post.... that I would like to have AA-Reverb from VPS as individual plugin... some people pointed that it's the ArtAcoustic reverb which would make sense... is it the same in Nexus ? I haven't listen to it closely...

Unfortunately the ArtAcoustic reverb doesn't seam to be updated anymore...
