And about Reaper... cmon it's ugly as f***. Ugly stuff is never popular.
If you had to stick to one DAW, which one would it be?

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

It's a learning curve thing, oddly enough I have that problem with ReNoise, never could establish a workflow with it.sQeetz wrote: Sat Feb 19, 2022 7:08 pm I hate Logic. Can't get anything done with it. I dunno why....
The day Cubase goes dongle-less is the day I'll demo it and decide if it's something for me or if I'll switch over to Renoise only.

Still on the fence. Not sure I really need/want a new DAW. Logic actually has everything I need. Guess I'm just blaming the tools for the lack of creativity I'm experiencing lately.

REAPER is only free if you're so self-centered you're comfortable to ignore that it isn't.
and how does any individual know from "most people who do other forms of music" like that?
assumption trumps ok! Wow. But it does follow a thread that assumes those who stick to one must be forced to, isn't it. It's a consumer world, everybody be distracted by the shiny new thing over there.
If I had to *guess* I would think the number of people here that use a sequencer to write outweigh that significantly; the rest of the world I wouldn't know about. One of my favorite composers I'm friends with uses Reason. My old musical partner-in-crime uses Pro Tools and afaict simply records his Yamaha Motif. And I really had to mix his piano on our projects. and correct some out-of-tune business. I have those tools, he has chosen a live music life as like an ethos and doesn't have other software like that. He is not orchestrating; I am.

If I had to rely on one to get everything done, it’s hands down Cubase.
Other DAWs do some things increasingly well. Cubase covers almost everything well. Nothing you can’t accomplish in this DAW.

That's understandable. I'm in a funk myself. I've been focusing on coding scripts for Cubase Midi Remote, hoping that I get creative again soon.sQeetz wrote: Wed Apr 06, 2022 6:11 pm Still on the fence. Not sure I really need/want a new DAW. I have Logic too, just, no Mac at the moment. I really like the way they did Non-linear. It's the best of all the options. I like their scripting environment as well. One thing is for certain, new gear does NOT get you out of writers block. If anything it has the opposite effect.

Every time I demo Cubase, I realize how much more comfortable I am with Studio One, and how much I actually prefer its GUI to the Mickey Mouse look and the bloat of the more recent Cubase versions.sQeetz wrote: Wed Apr 06, 2022 6:11 pmStill on the fence. If I had to start all over again, I'd try Bitwig. Cool modular architecture that's always handy. Built-in plugins and libraries are not important anymore.
But I've got too much stuff set up and mastered to just abandon it.

Since I've switched to MacOS I'm kinda sensitive to such things. One thing that drives me away from an app is the lack of MacOS menu support. If an app only has edit - help menus if any, then it's a pass.
FL Studio, Tracktion Waveform, Bitwig...
If you port your apps, please try to also adapt to the way the OS works instead of doing your own thing
