Arturia: Are they that bad?

I know they used to have issues years ago (support, etc.) but lately I have heard better things about them in general. I have been using the latest V Collection with no problems.
Some people say they don't sound exactly like what they are emulating, but even if some of them are a bit different sounding than the hardware, they are still good synths anyway. That sale they had recently was a bargain ($199 for V Collection)
Just waiting for those larger GUIs...

They're just mostly old designs both visually and aurally and the updates don't seem to deal with the core problems. I think that both their success and criticism are related to their choice to offer emulations. People will buy emulations because of, largely, nostalgia, but, people will also criticize emulations for not being accurate.

I'm rather sure that mostly those nerdy 'oscilloscope' people who do not even produce music on a daily basis are agitated about the 'sound difference' and 'emulation accuracy'. But well, each to his own.Examigan wrote:I know they used to have issues years ago (support, etc.) but lately I have heard better things about them in general. GUIs suck, but soundwise I have no complains at all, especially in a mix no listener cares (and the others shall listen to other music than mine), and they provide a large amount of usable signature presets (" lol wut he said he uses presets wut???, hang him higher!!!!!!111!11...")
No, and I didn't do neither a survey nor a study for my bold and unscintific claim.

Yes, the presets are very usable it was a shame not to use them. I don't think that people judge Arturia as a bad company because of the presets.2ZrgE wrote:...and they provide a large amount of usable signature presets (" lol wut he said he uses presets wut???, hang him higher!!!!!!111!11...")![]()

It refuses description, allowing only the vague approach of adjectives: dark, light, raw, angelic. Who or what is making these noises? Where are they coming from and what do they point to? What kind of entity can leave such a troubling sonic remnant?

No of course not it was just a side blow for those 'real musicians' who of course don't use presets.4damind wrote:Yes, the presets are very usable it was a shame not to use them. And because I mostly use Arturia synths for the presets I even don't really care that much about the GUIs (still I would prefer bigger ones if they came with a free update).

Actually, I'm very happy with Arturia.
I have Spark LE (well built) and the V collection, no problems whatsoever.
I do have a wish which has been expressed in other posts, which is that Arturia will make it possible to resize the GUI for the V collection. I got the V collection for only 99 Euros, an incredible deal considering the quality of the individual VIs.

That's a huge one! I can't imagine what they are waiting for.JJ67 wrote:I do have a wish which has been expressed in other posts, which is that Arturia will make it possible to resize the GUI for the V collection.

Here's an example. I have a Sonic Core system (DSP/i/o box) that has a plug in called ProWave. It's basically a Prophet VS emulation (plus more, but that's off topic). It's pretty old but it sounds fantastic. For fun I put it up against ProphetV and let me tell you, the Arturia sounds mushy and indistinct in comparison. No contest. Other Sonic Core (Creamware) plug ins, like Minimax (Minimoog emulation) have been equalled by native plug ins, but the Arturia stuff lags.
