good point, and I intend to do something about it. eXT do have automatin clips and ghost automation. Thats something you dont have in the pro apps at the moment.
cheers

thats the only 2 things you cant do in pro host's that you list?
Just for the record!
eXT has become my new logic
i work in midi (mostly)
sonar has a workable midi editor but the rest is to clutterd IMO (& i couldent aford it & after being bit by emagic like that i had no intenchion of paying big buks again)
Tracktion came & i switched (mostly for freeze & 32bit summing) but midi is not the most pleasent thing to work with in Tracktion, witch made it hard for me to work (not that it stoped me from working)
since you added PDC i have been sniffing around here & now i can knock up a midi track just as quick (if not quicker) than i could in logic
Thank You Jorgen

Perhaps an option for an envelope track, routed to the track level, to be automatically opened whenever an audio track is added. The envelope track can be defaulted to a 'minimized' view, a la cubase. This would allow the automation clips and ghost automation that Jorgen mentioned but with less of the modular fuss for every track. I'm not sure how this would work for a midi track, as far as routing is concerned (i.e. midi tracks can control more than one sound source).original flipper wrote: blimey you use 50 audio tracks and want to go through the insane work that creating 50 envelope tracks will take, connect them all up, bring in fx to automate - conect them up ....
I say an optional automation locked into midi/audio tracks needs to come soon - the modular way is fine but intensive, confusing and certainly something a pro would not want to use given huge projects that need to be moved along at a fair pace ... for obvious financial reasons.
Also, envelope recording is a must to make this ideal.

HI
My view is that many people operate on a 1 vsti plug-in to 1 midi track or 1 piece of continuous or sliced audio to 1 audio track - in this respect it makes sense (if your looking to have relatively accessable automation) to at least have that as a pre-wired routing.
The above way is the default 'connectivity' for many host programs - in Live you simply have a drop down menu on each midi/audio track that gives you the vsti parametres (obviously not for audio, but you would get volume, pan and fx levels) ... in SX you have 'lanes' of automation tracks that can be opened up for the same purpose ... in Logic you have a similar system as Live with a simple drop down menu that brings up all the automation to the vsti or fx parametres - in both Live and Logic the automation is overlayed over the Midi or Audio track in a translucent fashion.
My point has always been that the modular aspect of XT is great BUT simplicity and accessability deserve a place as well ... if the program is to have a wider appeal - in my case I simply want a less time consuming system to do the automation.

I'd be happy to pay an upgrade fee for, say, eXT 2.0 if it came with a comprehensive and well written documentation bundle. For me, the lack of proper docs is what prevents me from switching to eXT for my main host -- it simply takes too long to wade through all the bits and pieces of docs that migth or might not be up to date.
I realize that Jørgen is a brilliant developer (at least half of him
) and that the rate of development makes it difficult to keep the docs up to date. Still, there are excellent technical writers for hire, and I'd be happy to contribute via an upgrade fee.

When I was younger I used to be in doubt. These days I'm not so sure.

People are very helpful in the XT forum though. It's rare I see someone asking a question without receiving a polite answer.

For what it's worth, I agree with you that another form of automation would be nice, or even have a pop-up window like the CC map that would allow selection of the parameters that you want an envelope track for and one click later, the connections and envelope tracks are generated automatically.
That would be pretty slick.
I get mired setting up all these envelope tracks, myself, so I'll end up ditching them and using a non-syncing LFO or a semi-random algorithm in place of it.

HI D
I think ...
Hell; I forgot as well ...
I just bitch about automation at every possible opportunity ... I really don't have another host change left in me ... so I put my trust in Jorgen - and hope he will deliver my ass
