I guess it’s one of these in a box: https://www.rebeltech.org/product/owl-modular/

I think it's more or less the befaco iteration of that, the Lich.

Anyhow, because it looks fun and I'm greedy I bought one to see...

Hmmm... First impressions of the witch are not good! Hold fire if you're thinking of one for your linnstrument... I'll see if I can iron out issues and update later...

So I had issues with the witch bugging out from the linnstrument's midi stream, but I think I've solved it with the usb speed hidden setting thanks to a helpful forumite elsewhere... I'll test more tomorrow but I think the issues I had at first are solved.

Thanks for posting your findings.

And still, it seems that MPE continues to elude synth designers, particularly in the realm of hardware.

Cheers!

For all friends of SuperCollider, I made a simple sawtooth 'violin' synth.

MSoundFactory by Meldaproduction.
The new midi cc smoothing algorithm is incredible. Your pressure can really shape your amp envelope. (you can control, without velocity, just by pressure, your amp attack and volume without noise zipper).
I compare it to my continuum half size and the Msf response is near the Eagan matrix response. Msf could be a great Linnstrument's friend.
Plus the cc response curves for each modulations make it a real expressive instrument.
@Whywhy May you give us an example preset?

I tried to figure out the right settings in MSoundFactory but this synth is really overwhelmimg in its modulation possibilities.

It's a somewhat curious thing that the best I've found so far in terms of response is the humble axoloti core. The modor nf1m remains my keeper, though it's midi for that as it doesn't have a host port.

I've considered going the Axoloti route so many times. I just don't have the energy, these days, for a DIY project of sorts. I've rested on the Argon8M for now. Just like the Modor though, there's no host port, so it's DIN or bust.

Cheers!

I guess this is, to some extent, a matter of personal taste and convenience; I have never had a problem with DIN MIDI attachment to my LS, because I also have it connected to a Novation AudioHub 2x4 which has a built-in powered USB hub so I can control my primary iPad with AUM and all my apps.

The MIDI Out from the LS runs to either the secondary or tertiary iPad, or to any one of my hardware synths, whether or not they're MPE-compatible. I can switch the focus of my performance control simply by going into Global Settings and going back and forth between USB and MIDI output. Works exceptionally well for me, your mileage may vary.

I basically do the same. The LinnStrument’s USB is connected to my MPC Live, which provides power to the LinnStrument and the MIDI connection for the MPC’s plugins; while the LinnStrument’s DIN port is connected to the Argon8M. Like you, I switch back and forth via the Global Settings.

To my mind, it’s a backwards setup though: i.e. ideally, the USB would be connected to the Argon8M, if only for the bandwidth (MPE), and the DIN to the MPC (non-MPE). :?

Cheers!

Hey John,
I use USB only and it routes in my DAW fine. By the way have you checked out the latest firmware? I'm amazed and surprised at the new presets, great starting points for fun. They really stepped up the game I thought, and it's nice they keep improving things. I've stopped using VST's mostly on Linnstrument and just use the Argon8m, they are an amazing combo.

Have you tried a Micromonsta 2?

I like finding issues with things but this synth has me stumped, it all just works really well.

Wait! The Micromonsta 2 supports MPE?

I remember Samuel saying, with absolute adamance, that the MM2 would NOT support MPE. He seemed to have his reasons. As such, I never gave it a second look.

I do think it's a brilliant little synth. That said, I've never had my hands on one.

I'm looking at the release notes for firmware 2.1, and indeed it would seem that MPE is now supported. Hmm... Tempting, but for now, I'm committed to the Argon.

Cheers!
