Serum 2 is in the works, DMG Audio is also involved!

I would happily pay something for Serum 2 also. I wouldn't expect the builder that built my place to upgrade it for free, or for Subaru to keep my 18 year old vehicle up to road worthy standard. Expecting software developers to do anything apart from bug fixes for free, while not exactly the same, is kind of weird imo.

Yep would agree that I would happily pay and when he told me he planned to give it for free to serum users I did say that was mighty generous and unexpected.dysjoint wrote: Fri Jan 03, 2025 11:07 pm I would happily pay something for Serum 2 also. He said he wants to thank those that support him and made serum a success, certainly a dev I personally think highly of - both with his products and open and honest communication.

One thing to also keep in mind, is that new producers are born every year. Every single year, a bunch of 16 year old kids want to start making electronic music, and they keep hearing about Serum. So I think Steve will do quite well while also being super generous to Serum 1 users.dysjoint wrote: Fri Jan 03, 2025 11:07 pm I would happily pay something for Serum 2 also. I’m sure if Steve setups a PayPal for donation, many of us longtime users would contribute to the v2 if it’s provided as a free update.
I would.
I would.

He mentioned on Reddit that he was considering a pay-what-you-want option for those who are upgrading.liquidsound wrote: Sat Jan 04, 2025 6:20 pm I’m sure if Steve setups a PayPal for donation, many of us longtime users would contribute to the v2 if it’s provided as a free update.

Great! I'm sure many of us will happily contribute.Vortifex wrote: Sat Jan 04, 2025 8:32 pmHe mentioned on Reddit that he was considering a pay-what-you-want option for those who are upgrading.liquidsound wrote: Sat Jan 04, 2025 6:20 pm I’m sure if Steve setups a PayPal for donation, many of us longtime users would contribute to the v2 if it’s provided as a free update.

Except Steve already has stated, many times, that "Updates are free for life and are priced in to the purchase price of Serum." I see as recent as November he's stated this.dysjoint wrote: Fri Jan 03, 2025 11:07 pm I would happily pay something for Serum 2 also. This is why there aren't sales or discount codes for the product. It's priced high to account for the future updates. This has nothing to do with your 2007 Legacy Wagon that wasn't sold with the condition that updates were included for subsequent model years.
So I think it is kind of weird to equate the two and ignore or not respect Steve's own pricing logic.
If you want to hand over more cash to him, by all means. But there seems to be an implication that the man should double back on his own guarantee, which I'm sure has effected the purchase decisions for some into making the sale. So I think it needs to remain without further cost to update.

With all due respect, I think that you may be picking up an implication that isn't intended (at least, I know that I didn't intend to imply anything about Steve doubling back on his previous stance; perhaps others did and, of course, I can't speak for them, but, having said that, I didn't pick up the implication in anyone's post either on a rereading. While I can see where you might have implied this from dysjoint's post, I don't think he was speaking literally in the sense that he'll ignore Steve's policies; he does seem to be reflecting that Steve has gone above and beyond with his free upgrade promise. I admit that I might be in error in my interpretation of the comment. Perhaps if he deems it worth noting, dysjoint will clarify his meaning.)VitaminD wrote: Sun Jan 05, 2025 3:40 amExcept Steve already has stated, many times, that "Updates are free for life and are priced in to the purchase price of Serum." But, speaking for myself, I mentioned what I did only out of gratitude for the man's work and the usefulness of the product he turned out. Nothing else crossed my mind. FWIW.

Guess you mean the "pay-what-you-want-to-upgrade" option....
Has the possibility of an intro sale for people who don't have Serum been ruled out?
Any mention of the MPE implementation? Will the mapping options be expanded to keep up with Vital? Will any of the presets be designed with MPE in mind, and poly aftertouch/Press and Timbre/Slide already mapped?
If there's no sale, I'll probably wait until next Black Friday and then see what Serum 2 preset banks are on sale, and particularly if there are any designed for MPE. Then demo. Hopefully some of those third-party presets will include some free "demo" presets and the Serum 2 trial will be able to load them.
Especially since the factory presets for original Serum are generally regarded as underwhelming---though given Serum's immense popularity they could easily hire a lot of great preset designers for Serum 2... any idea if they have?
