Vendor‑Dependent Copy Protection: Customers lose. Pirates win.
(Also: I'm Accused of lying about Linux—it boots, runs my pro audio workflow, stays stable, updates--though yearly dismissed as “niche”. Yet I'm the deluded one.)

I just did a clean install of Monterrey. Haven't used OBXD much in the past but wanted to give it another try. Guess I can't anymore. Don't want to use a wrapper.
If it was their intention to not let the Logic users use the "free" OBXD and just have us straight up pay for it first, then good luck to them.

It can be complicated for the developer, but it is generally straight forward for the end user. Just like anything else full of legalese.

I honestly don't know anything about why there isn't an AU plugin. The only thing I know is that VST2.x s being phased out by Steinberg. Maybe George just hasn't had time to get it compiled for AU yet. I wouldn't give up hope, ask him about it and see what he says.hurricaneaudiolab wrote: Fri Dec 16, 2022 7:58 pm I just did a clean install of Monterrey. It's not about time, it's about profit.
From the manual:
"OB-Xd demo does not include AAX, Audio Unit, VST2 or LV2 builds.
Purchase the registered version to get those plugin builds at https://
www.discodsp.com/obxd/"

Don't be so cynical...
George took on OB-Xd as a labour of love...
But there's a lot of stiff competition out there in the free VSTi world,so he has had to modify a
few things...
Like the original licensing agreement

me: "It's not about time"
george: "Purchase the registered version to get those plugin builds"

No cynicism, just the facts.
I mean I don't care. Never used it, really just wanted to try it - but I guess I can't even try it since in order to "demo" it I'd have to buy it first.
In case you weren't aware, George, Logic doesn't support VST2/VST3. Just Audio Unit.

Or perhaps he took up obxd to add it to the discodsp portofolio and make a buck out of it .digitalboytn wrote: Sat Dec 17, 2022 1:02 amDon't be so cynical...

I am not saying that's wrong but when was the last time disco-dsp released something with custom dsp code ?

50 € for a synth he basically took over from someone else, and added some framework related additions, and maybe some skins. Maybe your "labour of love" differs from mine.digitalboytn wrote: Sat Dec 17, 2022 1:02 amDon't be so cynical...

Not that I complain. If anything, he should just go full payware, instead of this bickering with the license and terms of usage of the free version.

I guess I was confused by the word "demo", which usually means "not fully-functional or time limited".
If it had said "Free version includes xx and xx" instead it would have been a bit more clear...
I guess Cubase and Reaper users are regarded as non-commercial free loaders who get it for free, but Logic and ProTools users, they can afford it and gotta pay...
So despite downloading the AU version when it was free and the license terms were different, does that mean I have to pay for it, or delete it, now, or be in breach of the current license?

You got it under GPL. This grants you irrevocable permission to use the software, and to convey it to others, so long as you also follow the requirements of the GPL (such as providing source code and keeping it under GPL).beely wrote: Sat Dec 17, 2022 12:44 pm So despite downloading the AU version when it was free and the license terms were different, does that mean I have to pay for it, or delete it, now, or be in breach of the current license?
