If you had to stick to one DAW, which one would it be?

Believe it or not, I can remember scenes on the news of hundreds of people waiting for the doors of a big box store to open at midnight so they could be first to get their hands on Windows 98. Of course, being PC people, there was no orderly line, it was a riotous mob, intent on looting the Windows shelves so they could be first. Nerds can be scary when you get 'em riled. But it was the store who had drummed up the excitement, not Microsoft.

What I love about this is I never have associated anything, not one part of my personality, with the computer I own. Sometimes with people every accusation is a confession.

Corporation have invested an inordinate amount of resources to convince people to define themselves by the products they buy. It is not easy for people to escape the manipulation of that massive effort.

Even though neither Live or Bitwig can do what MuLab can do with the Clip Launcher, Ableton is a fantastic DAW.

Have you tried to play with the DC Offset and wavetables lfo at audio rate? In a few clicks, you can create your own wavetable synthesiser, with any level of complexity like 8 wavetables moving at the sametimes but differently and polyphonically, different types of filters, envelopes.... it is like the grid without the grid, really awesome.

I could go absolutely insane with any good synth and end up producing sounds rather than music i.e., an idea, from beginning to end, which is easily derailed into a rabbit hole when I begin to explore the "ENDLESS" (and you know the rabbit hole ) ways to modulate an instrument or a combination of tools...

In my 55 years of making music (I started very early in life), Bitwig has been the least productive DAW I ever used.

Sure, but it's always up to us as individuals to overcome this. It's not an impossible task, just recognize the inherent stupidity in generalizations, marketing, provincialism, branding, nationalism etc. etc. There is nothing more stupid to me than being "proud of" or thinking you're smarter for X or Y reason, especially if that reason is something as ridiculous as what brand of thing you own, where you're from, and your culture etc.

I always find this odd. I'm not knocking it, just taking it in. I've jumped around a lot myself, and I can honestly say every DAW I've tried has some really great ideas and features. Mostly it's me, what part of the DAW pisses me off and makes me frustrated, that's what makes my choice. I've used Live for 20 odd years now and I love it and hate it. I love all the parts of it that are ergonomic, and hate the constant bowing to KISS it does with the un-assignable key commands, and in the past sheer amount of mousing you end up doing (though that's a lot better now). I love using Live for smaller projects it feels like nothing is quicker, I hate using is for larger ones, it feels like nothing is slower.

I don't really care, I am infinitely more interested in the instruments we use. I was happy enough using Cubase. I didn't need to move to Studio One and if my bandmate had asked me to move back, I'd have done so happily. Beyond a certain fairly low threshold, it honestly isn't that important, which is probably why I am a happy little Vegemite working with Studio One Artist.

That's what you think, I'm sure an impartial observer would see it differently. What brand is your smartphone? Your tablet? Your watch? Your mp3 player? Your streaming box? Your smart speaker? Mine are all different brands and all different from the brand of my laptop.
